Ideas to finish my car
 
I recently bought my 1st Miata, the previous owner started to part it, and I ended up with a non-runner with some goodies. Here's what I got
1991 Shortnose with a BEGiS3 Turbo Kit, (the kit is complete)
Hard Dog Roll bar...some other random stuff.

What I need to make it work.
The car was wired for a Link Mk1 The link was sold prior to purchase
I have no exhuast from the downpipe back, it did come with a test pipe but I need a cat as I plan on driving this on the street. I believe the diameter of the down pipe is 2.75"
I only have the stock injectors, It seems to be debatable between 440 and 550.

I guess I'm looking for advice on the exhaust I don't have any welding experience so If I can peice something together that bolts up that would be nice. It previously had a dual Enthuzicar exhaust on it but it looks like those aren't made anymore.

For the ECU I've never seen a link, but I have a friend that showed me his MS. I'm not sure what I want, ideally I would like a netbook computer in my glove box to plug and play with whatever ecu I choose.

Please get my mind going with some ideas.

Welcome to the forum. Buy a MS to run it. You can spend a lot of money on exhaust or build your own if you wanna learn how to weld. Or take it to a shop and tell them to build a 3" exhaust for it, but it will likely be crush bent, not mandrel bent.

i say since ur driving it on the street sell me your roll bar and use the funds towards a Megasquirt or 3" exhaust at a local shop. Just tell them you want 3"mandrel alluminized with a magnaflow muffler...less expensive but good route to go.

I plan on having some track days with it too, so the Roll bar is staying with me, so are the 14x8 diamond racing wheels and hoosiers that came with it;)

ms and enthuza 3". My enthuza 3" fit perfectly on a mutant car, but its really loud. I recommend two sound dampening agents if you daily the car. With the non-headliner'd hard-top, it might require earplugs or headphones for roadtrips. However, downshifts sound really cool.

I'd start with a standalone and wideband first, learning how to tune the miata your self will serve you better in the long run, plus you will be able to safely turn up the boost once you get some experience.

+1. I just followed this procedure for many months (the only difference is I use an AEM). I installed a Begi S5 from another forum member on my 96 and spent about 6 months with boost at WG spring levels while learning to "tune" my car.

It wasn't until today that I finally hooked up the EBC and turned up the boost.

BTW suprmn91, please post your location below your Avatar. We always ask newbs to do so and it's for situations like this. You're asking for advice but it makes all the difference in the world whether you live in California or some other State where regulations are not that strict.

If those are stock they will be blue, and are only like 230 or something???? They maybe RC injectors, they usually are ran with the link ecu from flying miata. They will be black and say RC in red and white at the top. And they will say the injector size on the side of them. 440 or 550's are a good size injector for your application.

First off, how much are you wanting to spend to get it going. That has to be addressed if you have that large of an injector. The stock ecu will not support those injectors.

DiyAutotune has a special on too. And there is a link here to be able to get the pnp for 560 or something right now. I would jump all over it! I think Brainack started building the parrallel ms units again. There are a few others that sell them too. Or you can build your on cheaper.
Or you will need some other fuel management that can control those other injectors.

Otherwise you will need smaller injectors and bandaids.

I have a crush bend 3" exaust on mine. It works well and I only spent $120, and never turned a bolt. But I have no cat which saved $$$. I would not do a crush bend 2 1/2 use mandrenal bends. And if you can wait and purchase a complete exaust, or just mandrenal bends from ebay to have a welded system. That is what I would do.

If you are going to put a cat on it, you need a 200 or 300 cell count for peak performance. But that all goes back to budget. If you have plenty you can do it right the first time.

Or if you are like me and need some time to get it right($$$$). Just go get a $30.00 miata exhaust out of the junk yard, it will bolt up, and then save for what you want, and do it right.

How are you on noise in a DD. My 3" is crazy loud. and has some rattles every once in a while at 4000-5000 rpms. The 2 1/2 isn't anywhere near as loud. You lose probably 5hp, but in my opinion, who cares if you can hear your radio. ( I'm currently trying to quieten my 3" down). Although if you have a cat on it, 3" should be ok.... Mabe. If you want all the power you can get and don't care about sound. 3" is best.

If you do go 3inch, get as big of a muffler as you can and a resonator.

how about you just clean it up, that engine bay looks like a mess of wires and tubing. things need to be secured in order to avoid getting burnt and melted.

It used to have a 3" Enthuzicar exhaust on it, it didn't have a cat though, I can't run a test-pipe as it's illegal. I like a deep throaty exhaust but I don't want cops to be after me everytime I drive by. The old exhaust was dual and the bumper is cut so I would like to run a dual again, I can't find a dual exhaust on the enthuzicar website, but I've seen people doing dual magnaflows and calling it enthuzicar? I'm looking for a place to get what I need, I like the 2.75 cat back from enthuzicar would it be sufficient?. For $$$ I don't want to spend more than 4k total to get the car where I want it,
Identified needs are
Link or Megasquirt ECU $500-750
Wideband 02 sensor $200
550 RC injectors (what it used to have) $350
Exhaust from downpipe back $500-$750
1.8 Torsen Swap $800

Then it needs a new top, supsension and I'm ready to roll....LOL, it's a long ways from there. I just want to make it run right now.

do you have a cat and muffler or is it just straight pipe? I have a cat and muffler on my 3" enthuza and I don't find it overly loud. I did a 12 hour drive with it as well. Head was buzzing a little bit but not much more than it would have otherwise after driving that long.

I have th cat and muffler too. I guess its all subjective. I'm a little concerned about the law's interest.

Get the 3" with two mufflers on it. Getting 2.5" is a mistake. My sister has the 2.5" JR exhaust on her msm and the car sounds realy weird. In boost, it has no real note or timbre, just turbulence like a hair dryer. It basically made no gain butt-dyno measurable gain in performance...and still only made 154whp with it. She wants 3" now.

The law doesn't look twice at a miata. In fact this is the only car where I've consistently gotten out of tickets when pulled over. Not to mention the fact that there are several V8s, Hondas, and a Ferrari in my town which are much louder than my car.

Seriously, do you bleed every month? I've been daily-driving my 3" Enthuza for 24k miles. It's as quiet as any 3" exhaust I've heard on any car.

My 2 1/2 " enthuza sounds great! Relatively quiet at cruise but a really nice sound under throttle. Not ricey at all. It sounds tough. (at least for a Miata!) Have a high flow cat and Borla muffler.

I ended up with the 2.5" as I'm cheap and it was a quality unit available used at the time I needed it. Starting from scratch I'd likely go with the 3". Unless I do a built motor and look for a lot more power I wouldn't change mine though.

True if the miata still resembles a miata. Last time I was pulled over the CHP officer couldn't figure out what the car was without asking me/looking at the registration. Red cars just attract PO's like rats on cheese. Add the aero work, wheels, black and red color scheme, etc. and they pull you over before they ever hear the bov.

As the OP has a mariner blue, they should not have to deal with such issues. Smurf it up! The LEO's won't bother em' one bit.

Just bought a link ECU, it's on the way. I know everyone's doing megasquirt but it was a lot cheaper. It has the serial connection and I want to hook my netbook up to it. Where can I find the software to do this? Also what are people doing for injectors, this car previously had a link with 550cc's I'm planning to boost it to 10-12psi. Also what do people recomend for a WB02 for this setup? I'm focusing on making it run right now, exhaust, supsension are on the back burner. Thanks

I'm not sure what software you are referring to? You'll need a USB serial adapter which will have driver software. 550s are fine if that suits your needs. AEM or LC-1. Plenty of debate on that. Again, search.

I'm talked with Enthuza about getting in on the group buy. I just got my link in the mail, the sticker is off the chip does anyone know what the is to get the keyboard to show the chip code?

Deal of the century happened last night.
I called a local junkyard because I heard they got a Miata. I asked for a price on the rear dif, axles, and driveshaft, the guy had know idea what I was talking about when I asked if he knew if it had an Torsen LSD. it was a 97 M edition and it in fact does have the LSD, total price $350!!!:eek5:
He charged me for the aluminum carrier instead of the rear dif.

The car is moving along, hopefully it will start and run by the end of the month. though it's -2 right now.....and the roads are covered in salt, it won't come out to play until alteast late march or april
