installing Begi s1-s3 turbo header question
Hey guys, I'm in the process of installing a BEGI s1-s3 turbo kit on my N/A.
This kit is second hand, and my turbo is mounted on the header already, here is my question. Do I have to unbolt the turbo from the header to make it fit in the room between the headstuds and the frame ? It's pretty hard to bend otherwise, I already cut the frame for the turbo, but i can't get it to tilt it enough. I'm pretty sure I read in the begi kit I have to unbolt it. Anybody done it before ? Is it how i'm supposed to do ? Wanted to know before I unbolt the turbo from the header and then have to get a new gasket. Thank you |
clock the compressor and it should fit. if you unbolt, it will likely not bolt on with the mani in place unless you trim the studs
|
What do you mean by clock the compressor ?
|
the compressor housing is the only thing that prevents you from sliding it on
|
So basically Remove the compressor housing, slide it on WITHOUT the compressor housing, and then put it back when its on ?
|
that or loosen bolts, clock it toward the mani, and tighten back in correct place once on

That ^
Is how it currently sits, cannot be tilted much |
so the comp housing can't spin clockwise any more?
you sure? cause I did that with a gt2871r which is way bigger might need to remove comp housing then |
It's late, I'll try clocking the turbo tomorow morning. Thanks for the input, I'll keep you updated if it works or no

Looks decent clocked that way. Align or mock up what the intercooler piping will be and you should be able to get a rough idea of 'what works'.
Is your wastegate still bolted to the compressor housing? Here is my S3, with the internal wastegate moved over. Yours seems to be off to the side? https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1425960671 |

Loosen driver side motor mount , use a ratchet strap achored to the passenger shock mount , to pull the motor over far enough . Win ! At least it worked for my FM II with a Gt 3071. Cheers Fred

In my case , enough .... If you unbolt the motor mount completely ,careful here , the motor can be pulled over several inches. A floor jack and a block of wood under the oil pan is a good idea here as a safety. In this case I'd remove the bolts holding the mount to the block . Fred

Back in 2007 when I installed my Begi manifold and T25 I installed the manifold onto the head. Then installed the turbo. It was a PITA to get all the turbo bolts tight, but was doable.
