Intercooled Greddy Kit - Should I buy or Should I run away screaming?
8 Attachment(s)
I have the opportunity to get an Intercooled Greddy Kit and need some help to see if it's actually worth picking up for the $750 I negotiated the seller down to. The seller told me he does not have the oil lines or the Greddy Wastegate Actuator, nor does he have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Here's what he has:

I'd say it's a decent deal, however FM's brand new manifold and downpipe is the same price, and you'd be a rebuilt SR20 and an ebay intercooler kit away from this.
It's a good thing he doesn't have the fuel regulator though, since you'll want to run a MegaSquirt anyways. If those are RX7 injectors though, it's a pretty good deal I'd say. I'm not a fan of a top mount manifold after running one for a few years. Oh, and that ebay MBC is worthless too. |

How hard would it be to find the correct oil lines as well as the fitting for the block? And will just about any wastegate actuator work? Obviously I'll want to choose one that's in the range of boost I'd like to run, just curious if I can mix and match without having an issue. |
It's also a good thing you wouldn't have the greddy wastegate, it's also worthless. Doesn't hold boost steadily without a helper spring.
But yes, with a very sturdily fabricated wastegate bracket, anything with a long enough arm will work. You'll probably be somewhere just under $100 for a proper oil feed and oil drain. That'll include the banjo bolt and banjo at the turbo, SS line, adapter at the block, adapter at the turbo, and either a -an or clamp on SS drain line with a pan fitting. |

It's a mitsubishi turbo, it didn't come on any mitsubishi. See the difference?
I doubt any will bolt up, but they'll work if you take a few measurements. Honestly, as long as the arm is long enough to go from the wastegate to the edge of the compressor, I'm a big fan of this type of mount: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1333599107 |
Those are just stock 1.6 injectors, no? That Greddy downpipe looks interesting. I swear mine didn't have that angle to the left right off the flange like that one does. Weird. It looks like a decent deal. It is in much better condition than my Greddy kit when I picked it up. The thing is, you'll still need to get a MS and will probably want to get rid of that downpipe. Also, you'd still have to hack up the pipes to get the intercooler kit to fit.

My vote is for "run away screaming". You're gonna wind up replacing a ton of crap on it eventually, start with quality parts. --Ian |
The boost controller looks DEFINITELY like an older turbosmart one.

It's a decent deal. You'll still need a MS but $750 for all those parts is pretty good. I'd try to talk him down a bit still. You have to figure the ebay piping/intercooler kit is $150-200 give or take a bit, so you're looking at around 550-600 for the turbo, manifold, and downpipe. Not a bad deal if everything is in goood shape.
That said, for $700 you are in the neighborhood of the FM base kit that has MUCH better quality parts. SR20 turbo's are ≤ $100 bucks all day, and that combination is magnitudes better than the Greddy kit. Point that out to him and talk him down a bit. If he won't budge, save up for another month and go with FM. |
For $750 I wouldn't
