Intercooler Kit R&D comments please!
 

HI Guys! I need your needs and wants to an R&D intercooler kits for the Greddy kit!

What is your requirement if I was to Make a kit for the market?

- size/dimension of intercooler
- material for piping
- size OD/ID of pipings
- BOV flanges placement
- T clamps
- Silicone fittings
- Locations for demands: US/CAN/UK/N. Euro/ AUS/ Asia?

Anything more?

Pricing? fair to say please!

Are you going to be cheaper than Stripes, he already has a good kit out?

I'm not greddied or anything i was just curious why you were going to try and get into a market that is already taken care of.
Pretty much everything stripes has in his kit is what I would want though. BOV placement so that you can position the BOV to be easily recirc'd seeing how most greddy users don't run MAP. Use of straight silicone couplers instead of fancy bends and whatnot to keep cost down. The option of getting stainless pipes versus painted. 2" at the turbo, 2.5 at the throttle body or whatever stock sizing is. I think stripes charges $245 for just the pipes alone. Long as you beat that I think you would have a marketable product. Though like i said, his kit is nice and from what i can tell it appears to be a super easy install without complication.

Bascially, nothing much to improve if that's the case. What was intended was building the lightest and the most cool efficient kits avaliable for myself, and other that was the best kits avalible and for unbeatable pricings.

Honestly, I think that if you can do more of a complete kit that doesn't require sourcing half the hardware and a specific size intercooler, then, you would have something. Hell, even the pipes + just a nice intercooler would be welcome.

Easier said than done though...

The reason stripes doesn't sell it as a complete kit anymore is because it's cheaper to source the parts yourself alot of times. He got tired of people whining about high prices and whatnot and it just sucks holding onto inventory. So he decided to sell just the pipes, let people pick if they want cheap (worm) or expensive (tbolt) style clamps and what intercooler they want to use and how much they want to pay for it. He gives links for where to find those items cheaply on his site.
Now if you sell your kit intercooler specific and sell the mount to attach the IC to the frame you'll be good to go. Stripes kit just became a little more DIY, not difficult to deal with by any means.

If the kit does realize.. u will find its an complete kit, with light weight alum. Pipings, T clamps, with an light weight intercooler.

I'm not saying Stripes' approach is bad by any means. I can completely understand why he only sells the pipes. Which is why I'm saying "if" you "can" offer a more complete kit for a reasonable price then you have something. Stripes is the perfect example of why there is no reason to jump into the market unless you can offer a more complete kit.

Ideally, you'd offer a range of products with options, but like you said, then you're dealing with inventory issues.

Shipping on this kit would be from Hong Kong?

Jayc, Thanks for the question! For the meanwhile, leave the logestic for us. If again, the product becomes avaliable you will get it door to door at a reasonable cost.

- I am currently using their EBC and built in MAP sensor output for Emanage.

4" Thick? I've only seen 3" cores used. Will that work with cars running AC and all that. I've just never seen it done.
I'm really not trying to bust your balls about this.

Thanks for the comments Cjernigan, I had the same concerns too, but when I had my Calsonic which was a 3 inch core, but with the additional mounts it was more than 4". As this stage, its too early for me to give you a firm yes or no. Or if needed, they might need to find a different plateform.
