Intercooler setups
i know there are some people on the forum that make manifolds, downpipes, hoods, flares ect ect! is there anybody on here making intercoolers and piping?
im gonna be upgrading my intercooler and charge pipes at some point in time and is trying to see whats out there! i like the setup that BEGi offers and i love FM's silicone charge pipes and there intercoolers but not the price tag. So whats out there? |
I'm pretty sure 75% of us here have fabbed IC setups.
|
im not doubting that! what i have now is a hacked up fab job that gets the job done, but im looking for better and was curious to know if any of the members on here made a set up to reproduce and sell like some of the people do on here with mani's and DP's or like you do with building MS's for peps.

Aside from having a custom job done at a local shop or the BEGi/FM route, you probably aren't going to find too much for the 1.8L. Reason being is that there are a lot of subtle differences between the different year chassis, what fits one car may not or will not fit another, be it based on year, accessories (PS and AC), etc.

i kinda had some hope of getting ARtech or the guys of absurdflow to make setups to compliment there mani and DP's! im pretty sure without asking that they have thought about this before that or other people have thought about the same thing. idk, i guess im just curious to know if anybody is in the midst of makeing some or planing to fab somthing up! |
Post some pics of your setup so we've got something to critique!

There are many things included with the IC kits. Intercooler, intercooler piping, water bypass kit, turbo hose and t-bolt clamps. The intercooler can be rated up to 350 whp and still work with the a/c. It also had rigid mounting brackets. So it cannot rub holes in your a/c lines, like others can.
The silicone tubes are great post intercooler, but not such a good idea pre-intercooler. The steel tubes will help to shed heat. You could get IC tubes post IC made from stainless. But you are talking about a minimal temp change between the intercooler and throttle body. Almost not worth it. Stephanie |

I actually have a OBX dealer account (haven't ordered anything from them yet), but they did send me their dealer packet of parts. They actually list a full intercooler kit for the miata... I'm almost curious enough to order one just to see how much they screwed it up. BTW, here's my setup:

a very good solution is with precision ics they are really cheap and with very good perfomance. The only bad thing is that they are heavy
|
Is that because they are not aluminum?
|
reason im asking this is eventually i will be doing an absurdflow setup and im wanting a better and lighter intercooler setup.
maybe the guys with absurd can chime in! if i buy a mani and pipe from yall. can yall make a IC setup to compliment the mani and dp? |

If your worried about the weight that an intercooler setup adds, why not just go water/meth and delete the FMIC. It would clean up the excess pipes and be just as, if not more, efficient.
I say this because I will be doing it tomorrow. I too have an oldskool FM intercooler with some "interesting" piping for it, lol. |
a intercooler is weight well worth added. if your worried about weight pull the a/c full system brackets condensor under the dash ect is around 50lbs and rather have a cool engine than a cool car.
then pull then carpeting up and scrape all the sound dampener off if your worried about weight. i knew some guys so ---- about weight reduction the weighed each lug nut. |

Yup thats why I have the aluminum lug nuts :giggle: There are plenty of ebay kits out there that can be cut and coupled together if you don't mind using 100 silicone couplers in your system. But I prefer to use as little as possible. |
