Just installed a BEGi S1 kit
After all the negative posts about BEGi lately, just had to throw this up....
Just installed a BEGi S1 over the weekend. What a pleasure it was! Very easy, well though out kit. All the pieces fit nicely and were high quality. Even had stainless water lines with pre-installed fitting on the turbo. And the clamps! I never knew you could get a high quality worm gear clamp for the water lines. What a difference. No worries about over tightening and stripping the clamp. Nice little touches. One of the turbo nuts was a pain to get to, but that was more 'cause we didn't have a 17mm stubby than anything else. Overall, I'm still quite impressed. Every detail was covered, and every piece was included. So if you're looking at BEGi kits and wondering where the money goes, its the details. Thanks BEGi. The clamps are indeed very nice, but I have stripped one (out of four) from over torquing them. The cut divots on the strap will strip, turning it into more of a groove. Just wanted to say that so you know to be somewhat careful. |

I spent 5 bucks on each clamp and busted both of them...money well wasted. |
Those ABA clamps are some of the best because the edge is rounded and less likely to cut the hose you are clamping onto. You can over torque lots of things, and they will break. Sort of like, step in a puddle and you're gonna get water on you.

+1 on BEGi kits going together well.
Mine was used, and still went together without a single hitch...at all. Beautiful fitment, and not a single thing has moved during operation. I've unbolted intake and intercooler pipes nearly ten times, and had to replace two of the ABA clamps during that time, probably due to my overtightening. Still not bad odds. |

Bought mine new and have had no problems. Except having to rebuild the RRFPR due to bad gas. All in all +1

Like Long said, not my car. It was nice to see a real kit in person after my DIY build. Your right about the clamps, you *can* strip them. But you can strip anything if you try. I've stripped or broken many standard worm gear clamps with reasonably torque. These, you'd have to exceed what is reasonable to break them. Clamp torque won't fix all leaks. Just how it is. Long, The MS and WB are most of the battle. The BEGi kit is like an overgrown plumbing job. Just drops right in, you can handle it. :) --Alex |

I've got an '03 and have been looking at the BEGI-S. What would the BEGI-S kit require to use on the VVT motor - just the addition of the fuel management unit to increase fuel from the stock injectors?
A VVT compatable total ECU certainly wouldn't make it a budget build much longer. If I could, I'd like to run the kit as is (for the price). Could I run it safely without the intercooler (I see many S/C kits that run without an I/C, but my engine has 10:1 or so compression). |

anyways, I'm interested in running this kit next year. Or even the shanghai kit. its cheap enough to where if I end up not liking it, I can toss it and get something else. But if I'm satisfied with it, I just saved myself a ton of money. |
