kinda scared

so yea today i finally pushed the car over 4k rpms and sounds nice until about 4500 and it makes a faint rattling sound and the oil press gauge kinda goes back and forth the nb af gauge is maxed on rich side just a sound or problem????? the wg rod is shortened all the way 2 timing is set at 6 retarded 4 from base

magnamx-5 08-23-2007 04:26 PM

yep detonation 8-10 times most likely needs more fuel or more cooling, and or more octane. Or all 3.

turbobluemiata 08-23-2007 04:30 PM

so your saying that its detonation is that bad on the motor???? im riniing 93 octane right now? more cooling you mean intercooler right? and fuel i bought the 1.8 injectors what else is there????

olderguy 08-23-2007 04:33 PM

Is the AFPR with 12:1 hooked up?

Do you know what boost level you were running?

Braineack 08-23-2007 04:47 PM

got 93 octane in there? sounds like ping.

budget racer 08-23-2007 04:51 PM

detonation creates 4 cylinder paper weights

Most definatley detonation is bad ask my stock pistons why #2 looked like it had been put in a pulverizer, or ask braineack about the giant smoke screens he has seen cause pistons where fubard. 1.8's will help but ultimatley a IC or WI is needed to cool the air intake temps unless you plan on buying or building a new motor soon. Also check the fuel filter, make sure everyhting is working. And athrowing a gauge on the fuel system to make sure the pump is still pumping is a good idea as well. If the pressure is low then, the filter is dirty or the pump is going out. If the filter has been changed then, the problem is most likely the pump. Pick up a walboro 190 highpresure frpm lightning motorsports and then retest and you will see a big difference in pressure. GL man

turbobluemiata 08-23-2007 07:42 PM

its just the vortech and the wastegate is tightened all the way down so 6psi?????

olderguy 08-23-2007 07:49 PM

You can get 8~9 on only the wastegate. Loosen it up until it just doesn't rattle and get a boost gauge on there.

turbobluemiata 08-23-2007 07:52 PM

ohh really i thought that it only went to 6?

turbobluemiata 08-23-2007 07:53 PM

so if i get the new fuel pump the (190) y wouldnt i want to get the 255 for 25 dollars more?????

turbobluemiata 08-23-2007 07:55 PM

quick ? what vacuum line does a boost gauge go to????

SloS13 08-23-2007 07:56 PM

more isnt always better. In this case, it would be overkill.

The boost gauge needs to go to any connection in the manifold that sees both boost and vacuum. Please don't blow your car up.

turbobluemiata 08-23-2007 08:05 PM

trust me im not gonna blow it up hince all the ?s and another stupid one but just to cover my dumb ass are fuel filter any diff brand wise or a re cheap ones on ebay the same as all the others if not which one!

magnamx-5 08-23-2007 08:27 PM

the fuel filter is 30 bucks from autozone. dunno about any bad brands though

Arkmage 08-23-2007 08:40 PM

purolator fuel filter was only $15 or so at advance auto. that's usually my brand of choice.

because you didnt read my faq....

magnamx-5 08-23-2007 09:11 PM

read scots faq, and understand the 255 overpowers the stock fpr.

turbobluemiata 08-23-2007 10:20 PM

i am a full-time student and dont have much time to read every post, but i appreciate all help!!!would retarding the timing to 4* make any difference???

olderguy 08-23-2007 10:45 PM

Retarding one degree from stock for each psi of boost is conservative, but you should verify your boost level and fuel first and really shouldn't run more than 6psi without an intercooler or water injection to cool your intake air.
