nice intercooler fan. you don't see that often.

As far as getting an intercooler set up, there are several options. You might be able to get pre made charge pipes from BEGi and re use that old intercooler. It will be done very well, but will also be expensive. If you're a little brave you could buy a bunch of madrel bends and do it yourself. I wouldn't recommend that, more later...

You could also get a new intercooler/charge pipe package from BEGi or FM. FM gets $750 for the whole package (tubes, silcone hoses, clamps, and a new intercooler). I don't know what BEGi gets, but it woud probably be more as they use higher dollar, USA made intercoolers.

Most cost effective option: ditch the old intercooler, pick up a new one from ebay with the inlet and outlet on opposite sides, get a bunch of mandrel bends, couplers, and clamps, and go to town. I would recommend this option as a home brew around the radiator intercooler set up is very easy. Lots of pictures on this site if you search for them, also look through the vbgarage.

Default engine management

Lots of engine management choices available for your car. emanage blues have been used for years, and are proven reliable for over 200rwhp. would be inexpensive and fairly easy.

MegaSquirt is the least expensive stand alone out there, and you have a few different choices where you can either purchase and assemble your own MS kit, or you can purchase a ready to go MSPNP. Either option can be purchased from www.diyautotune.com. MS is more expensive than emb and might be a little tricker to set up. But it's also much more powerful and offers more features such as open and closed loop boost control, knock sensing with active retard/boost cut, throttle based boost, intake air and coolant compensations, barometric correction, launch control w/flatshift, and on and on...

What is your power goal? Biggest injectors you're likely to need are rx7 460's, which are good for nearly 300 rwhp. If your goals are more modest, I would recommend smaller.

Wow thanx Ben, lots of info. Im gonna call Begi today and check my options as far as Intercooler piping. As far as engine management I think i'll probably go ahead with that Emanage blue. However I hear there are two types, can u shead some light? I found some 330 injectors from a MX-6 turbo for sale and are advertised as plug n play, would those be suffecient? Hp goal is currently 200whp, give or take a few, prefferably give..lol.

P.S. The Turbo is the old Begi T25, with a T28 cartridge.

The 330s might get you to 200, it would be pretty close. 185-190 might be more realistic. Those are really the biggest you want to go with the emb, so you will need to use an FMU to get more power. And then possibly a fuel pump as well. You're looking at $450-500 if you score a cheap used emb, used FMU, and a new fuel pump. Makes a $730 standalone look good...

Have a look in the DIY section. The second Sticky is a "mostly inclusive" FAQ that will give you a basic idea and vocabulary.
Also check out the "Hey you NOOB" announcement at the top of every forum page... don't forget to fill out your sig.

Welcome to the forum. Biggest choice for you now is to decide how much money you have to spend on management. Money will dicate what you should buy. MS PnP or MSBraineak is the cheap all inclusive choice... or you can go Link or Exede or Hydra or whatever else your fancy is if you've got more money. 12psi is no problem... should get you in the 220-230 range with any of the standalones or EMB.

The signal source fitting is a plastic piece that pugs into one of the brake master cylinder vaccum lines. You can connect anything to it that requires a boost/vaccum signal. Boost gauge, BOV, Wastegate, ECU, etc... It's just a fancy T-junction.

You can probably get a parts list from FM that itemizes all pieces needed to plumb that intercooler. They even have a 50% off sale on silicone couplers right now. I wouldn't hazard a guess myself as to what exact bends you need to make it happen with that IC. It's a funky configuration.

I'd also recommend 2" pipes on the hot side instead of 2.5", to make it easier on yourself getting it to fit. 2.5" fits on the cold side fine.

That intercooler would be good if you don't have a/c. If you do, your drier is going to be in the way. Widest ic that fits with the drier (with the drier in the stock position) is going to be around 25" or so. And it will be off-center.

Do what Sam recommneds and just cruise through pics here. Several people outlined their intercooler charge pipe set up. The best is probably the one done by Joe Perez. He's got a greddy, not your old FM/BEGi set up, but if you look through it you'll get a real good idea of what needs to be done. User Braineack also has a lot of good, clear pictures of his intercooler set up.

Just got an email from Keith over at Flyin Miata. They want $325.00 for all the Intercooler piping. So it looks like im gonna have to go DIY style. If anyone has any idea what bends and lengths I need id appreciate it.

Thanx
Phil

Airfilter to turbo:

Depending on ecu all you need is a GOOD airfilter and a couple of silicone hoses, the pipe works are already there.

Turbo to ic

1 sharp 90degr bend (turbo to clear hood)2 inch?? pref. silicon coupler.
1 90 degree pipe down towards radiator return hose. 2 inch as long legs as possible.(cut then to your lenght)
1 2inch coupler
1 180 degrees bend 2 inch to go under radiator (legs as long as possible) or 2 and a coupler...
1 2 inch to 2.5 inch to ic(step up at last moment, don't step down)

ic to tb

1 2.5 inch 90 degrees silicone coupler.
1 2.5 inch 90 degrees bend with long legs.
1 2.5 inch coupler.
1 2.5 inch 90 degrees bend with long legs, to trottle body.
1 2.5 inch coupler.

lots off t bold clamps.

(try to find a simular ic setup (ebay) with t bold clamps and your choice of pipes(diameter))
Ask seller...

The sizes are a guess... Don't know the actual size off the ic...

Do you have PowerSteering or AirConditioning?... makes routing the hot-side charge pipes WAY SIMPLER if you don't.

LOTS AND LOTS of ways to route your IC pipes, but main are in order of most common:
1: Under the radiator.
2: Around the radiator.
3: Over the top.
4: Through the fender.

Look through pics in the vbGarage... post some of your pics while you're at it... and fill out a Signature for us and your Profile. Did you read the FAQ and the "Hey you NOOB" sticky's like I suggested... very good advice for getting started in there.

No need for a fp upgrade if going stand alone...

Running stock pump on 12 psi with 460cc rx7 injectors...

If running over 250-300 hp you might have some problems.
