Liltle play, is this normal?

Hi guys, just got my engine mounts installed and noticed there's a very little play between turbine housing and manifold when reinstalling down pipe.
Is this normal? Please help. Thank you |
As in you can wiggle it back and forth? Do you have inconel studs?
--Ian |
Yes, it does has inconel studs with stage 8 locking hardwares. The turbine housing has movements towards front and back of the car not from side to side of the car and I don't see any space between turbo and manifold but not sure when boost hits.
|
play between turbine and manifold is not normal, ever. so it's either not tightened all the way or warped
|
How do you determine warped?
Btw, thanks for your replies guys. |
take a straight edge to it
|
BTW, my stage 8 hardware required a pretty good amount of work, to make it all seat properly. Otherwise the nuts could effectively back off a good amount before locks engaged.
|
^^^Ryan, can you explain in details of how you seated them properly?
Thanks |
I just torqued all of the nuts to the recommended 10-15 ft. Lbs, then ground each keeper so that it fit snug against whatever it was going to back against. Some i had to grind, others i could just bend the tab to make it grab. The indexing doesn't always put the fasteners in an ideal location, is all I'm saying. Does that make sense? I'll see if I can find a picture of what I'm rambling about.

In the picture you posted, it looks like the rear top turbo to manifold nut is loose.... if the others are in the same condition then we know what your problem is :) It could just be weird shadowing in the picture though.

I'll take them apart and will get back.
Thanks |
Now I'm not sure if I have inconel studs! Is there a way to tell if what I have are or are not inconels?
|
Do you remember paying like 150 bucks for 4 studs?
|
I wish I do, I had these since 2009.
