Looking for some extra power
okay so i have a simple 93 stock miata with cruise control (if it matters) and im looking for a little extra power, looking to shave maybe a second off 0-60 times, two seconds if possible, but just enough for me to pass people quickly when needed
but once my finances agree with me id love to make this a drift project car so a turbo that can be upgraded later is what im looking for currently price isint too much of an option but if its possible under 2 grand that would be great, but throw me some turbos and numbers and help me look for what to save for |
|
Dude a cold air intake and a couple stickers (maybe a big wing) will add plenty of HP for your purposes.
|
no one here turbo's miatas. its a waste of time.
just get a bunch of stickers and a cool air intake brobro |
|
...
thanks guys |

Just buy a car from a wrecker yard and tell your friends youre a pro drifter.
|
Tyler. Don't listen to these buttfaces.
This is what you need to do: |
At the risk of being banned . . .
Here's a serious answer. First thing I would do is get a Megasquirt, delete your AFM and start learning how to tune. Beyond that, yeah . . . read. It's all here. |
Most of all...you need NOS. 2 of the big ones.
|
Tyler,
I'm really glad you've decided to allow us to answer this question for the bajillionth time. However, I'll take just a moment to help you out. Just go buy one of these. Miata Turbo Kit They're good for your short-term power goals, and will support up to 600hp. They'll probably last longer than the life of the car. People on here have had great results with this setup, just look up user Dem768 and check out his car. |
Ilovetacotaco is all you need to know.

some overnight parts from Japan, and you'll be able to do this.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1361132490 you might be able to turbocharge your car for $2,000 with a decent used kit, but that doesn't include all of the other things you'd need like suspension, roll bar, etc. you can't just turbocharge it. you could probably get EVERYTHING done for $4,000, as in a turbocharged car with the supporting stuff. |
The Shanghai-S kit costs like $1,600. For that price you might be able to build your own Megasquirt and still have a bit left over for misc. shit.

Jackson racing cold air intake should get you some horsepower for your effort.
|
You might also want to look up the timing mod.....
but best advice so far is to get a megasquirt and learn how to use it, tune it. Then you will be in a position to go further.... |

power adders
its easy and already been mentioned once or twice
get MS3 and remove AFM i think this is a dirty word on MT maybe ITB if your looking for Na power but still small gains or just get a entry level turbo kit and have fun i am building one now |
Really
You guys are freakin funny. The responses are hilarious, but I'm glad it wasn't me "lookin for some EXTRA power". I don't think I'll ever ask a question until I know so much I don't need to ask it.;)

Step1: Sell your '93 Miata
Step2: Add your $2000 budget to the money you got from selling your Miata. Step3: Buy a '93 300zx N/A Step4: Go bug the zdriver forum |
The thread was in a coma... Why not just let it die?

Best guess puts the total slightly above the 2,000 mark as you cheap out on the wrong part and you can throw your money away.
Used FM or BEGI cast log manifold and downpipe - 2-300? Used GT2560 or 2552 - $3-700 CXRacing intercooler - 150 bucks, tops Used MS:PNP - 600? Probably less off a part out thread. Used injectors, rc500's should suffice - 200? Various hoses and o2/knock sensor - 500, less if you do it right. Total: 2500, give or take. Theoretically you could do this for under 2,000 without much trouble. Assuming you can keep the torque down to spare the bottom end it shouldn't blow up, either. There's plenty of part-out threads on here, shouldn't be too hard to get this even lower. Avoid chinese turbos if you want to avoid (very real) possible headaches. |
Used begi/fm manifold and downpipe go for 200-300 each, not together.
