Loudest Bov Known!

what are the loudest bovs out there right now i have an ebay replica of a greddy rs one and its pretty quiet???

mx03tb 12-31-2007 06:18 AM

the REAL greddy rs is pretty loud, or the xs rfl(realfuckingloud), tial bov those are some good ones

jobambo 12-31-2007 06:24 AM

Turbo XS RFL is loud. Although HKS is louder because of its higher pitch.

rmcelwee 12-31-2007 08:01 AM

If you hook up both ports on a greddy r-type it is pretty damn loud (unhooking the 2nd port makes it quiet). My wife says you can hear my BOV way down the street before you can hear my 3' long exhaust that goes from DP to cherry bomb. You can hear it in this video:

Fireindc 12-31-2007 12:44 PM

The rfl is way louder than a ssqv at high boost pressures.

Also Rmcelwee, is there a specific vaccume line you should use to hook up the second port, i use the bottom port on the bov and hook it straight to the intake manifold, im assuming you hook the top one up somewhere closer to the turbine?

y8s 12-31-2007 01:18 PM

my greddy type R isn't very loud... but that's at 9 psi.

the noise is turbulence. meaning restriction. the type R is more about flow than noise.

XxGoKoUxX 12-31-2007 01:32 PM

Sard R2D2..... look it up anywhere, they'll all tell you it's mother effin loud.... looks ugly tho imo (and a lot of people claim it's louder than RFL/SSQ

spike 12-31-2007 01:39 PM

Turbosmart Megasonic, even at low 8 psi it's loud as shit. The TurboXS RFL does not even compare to this when it comes down to niose and flow.

flyineunos 12-31-2007 01:47 PM

i think mines pretty loud.. oldschool Blitz Super Sound

Savington 12-31-2007 03:51 PM

My eBay all-metal bypass valve is decently loud.

Wow its really loud! I could have mistaken the sound. for spinning no grip tire shifting!

But isn't supposed that the BPV be quieter than BOV?

Ack. Thats number one of the two sounds I hate from a bov... the second is compressor surge. :crx:

Which valve do you have?

dc2696 12-31-2007 05:00 PM

Loud bov's are the Devil!

cjernigan 12-31-2007 05:06 PM

Duck calls taped to a BOV are hella loud and obnoxious. Go for it.

The top port is hooked to the compressor and the bottom port is hooked to the vac port post throttle body (or the other way around <G>). It is that huge differential pressure which makes the difference in sound.

Do you have both ports hooked up? I'm just curious if the 9 psi vs 15 psi makes that big a difference in sound.

y8s 12-31-2007 05:39 PM

at about :26 you can hear it while scott's got his head under the hood. I do have both ports hooked up. you can also hear it about :36 when it whistles as it gets close to atmospheric.

It was advertised as a bypass valve for a 1.8T. I'm running it as a VTA BOV.

jtpaintballwdp 12-31-2007 09:07 PM

My SSQ is quite compaired to the RFL i had on my SR20...The SSQ is higher pitched, but I think is sounds sweet

RFL would make people jump on the side of the road...

UrbanSoot 12-31-2007 09:15 PM

i hated my ssq on starion

yo, i still have duck call to mount onto bov (but no turbo any more). ill give it away for free if anyone wants it. shipping is on you though.

photoeye0 01-01-2008 12:27 AM

Why the hell would you want a super loud BOV!! It's one more reason for the cops to pick on you.
I have a SSQV with the purple insert (which is the quiet one I guess) and it drives me nuts but if your look for loud try it with the stock or gold. Even with the quieter insert in the SSQV is louder then my old Greddy RS.

Thats why i got rid of the RFL.

The SSQ is pretty quiet when you're just drivin around not getting in to to much boost.

True...it's even better when your driving a 1st gen Protege:rolleyes:, but the cops in my town are ass holes so thats why I went with a quieter one.

I have a IHI VJ-20 and it's small!!! So I get a ton of part throttle boost.

+1 for the SARD R2D2 Bov. It's LOUD alright!:bigtu:

Can be found on Ebay for a decent price.

tronik 01-07-2008 11:19 PM

I've heard the bailey bov is pretty loud. It's also pretty safe for greddy since hte piston is strong and it won't leak. I've got one but no turbo kit running...yet

my buddy bought one. we'll see how loud it is when we get his motor in.

Faeflora 05-23-2008 11:43 AM

urgaynknowit 09-08-2008 09:15 PM

ok, bringing this shit back from the dead, but i just got the real hks ssq, and holy fucking shit,, this fucker is loud, and at low boost levels too, at 0-3 psi it makes a low woosh sound, but anything over 3 psi, this fucker screams, thought id share that, till i get some vids

disturbedfan121 09-09-2008 01:46 AM

i'll trade plus cash lol. my pipe and gredy rs knock off for you hks with pipe :)

urgaynknowit 09-09-2008 05:52 PM

never dude,,, i just paid nearly 300 for the whole pipe and bov, all new,,

wouldnt trade it,, save some cash and buy one, its well worth it

Saml01 09-09-2008 06:54 PM

My 50 dollar TurboXS is plenty loud and works very well, im good without a 300 dollar noise maker.

locomonkeyboricua 09-09-2008 08:15 PM

i had a rfl turbo xs BOV on my FM2 turbo and at 10 psi its loud. the only problem was that at low psi like 3 or so it would surge the turbo. If you dont have a small BB turbo i bet you wont have that problem. so i would loosen the spring and one day from all the vibration the dam thing blew off and i lost it doing 80mph i now have the super quite stock Mitsubishi bov. i miss the loud one because it was fun to mess with the V8 boys and then smoke them but in CA is better to be stealthy dam CHP.
