LS1 STS Turbo Kit bought.

I 've decided to leave the miata boosted, and just turbo the Camaro.

I picked up a upgraded STS Turbo kit with intercooler, meth injection, 60LBS Injectors, 67-1 turbo, electronic boost controller, etc.

The intercooler is huge.

I can't wait for it to get here.

I talked to LG performance and they said we can push the car to 671hp with those injectors and mabe a little more with the meth injection. But I don't want just a few or one bought run. I want to daily drive it.

He said for a weekend toy he would push it to 550 rwhp. Or for daily driving 475 to the ground.

I'm going to probabaly have it tuned for 550hp, and bump the boost down.

The tranny and everything is stock, so I'll keep it in the 400's.

But since a few guys on here are stuffing LS1's in miatas's, I thought they might be intrested in the boosting side of the LS1.

I Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Toddcod 12-15-2009 04:55 PM

And we also picked up a Powerdyne Supercharger for my brothers 97 LT1 WS6 TA, 6 Speed. It already suposed to have 375hp with the mods he has. He suposed to get a 120 -150hp jump.

The LT1 is wicked. But if you want to boost a 350 in a miata go Lsx. Anyone will tune it. We are probably going to have to stick his LT1 car on a dyno and email dyno results back and forth to a guy in Oklahoma City, to get the proper tune. Or just pull the car all the way there.

You don't have headers do you? Alot of people swear against headers on a rear mount setup. If you look up zombie in the forced inductions section of ls1tech he has alot of info of dos and don't for rear mounts. Basically stock manifolds are good and exhaust wrap is your friend. I did alot of research into it while ago in hopes of building a rear mount ls1 miata

Edit: Found the thread of zombies http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/forced...urbo-saga.html

Toddcod 12-15-2009 05:24 PM

Cool Thanks,

Yea have stock headers and Y pipe. I'm concerned about the cats though. They say leave them. I would hate for a chunk to blow through and damage the turbo.

A guy I raced lemons with son has a SS twin turbo. I don't know the whole background on it but he made 950 rwhp after upgrading to bigger turbozz. 5th gear wheel spin ftw

Hahaha. I've heard horror story's of the body tweaking at 550rwhp, and a T-TOP blowing off.

The guy I bought it from had a built low end, ported heads and 602 rwhp. He said he had to put $3000 alone in the tranny.

Bond 12-15-2009 05:49 PM

Before we sold our Z/28 we got the trans rebuilt for $550 dollars and it was supposedly good for 500rwhp. I miss the torque of that car.

johnmatt 12-15-2009 05:50 PM

3k sounds about right for a good rebuild with cryo and stuff and a good clutch

Toddcod 12-15-2009 07:07 PM

I'm going to put a upgrade kit in it. And stay pretty basic since it is a daily.

They say it adds 3mpg. If you keep your foot out.:naughty:

Yeah good luck with that. I couldn't stay out of it when I had a cammed GTO and can't with this turbo either. Could only imagine a mix between the two. Better you than me bro that's all I can say

How is the Haltech coming? I have the same programmer. Any tips. I haven't even messed with it.

Holy shit that thing took off.

Rear mount = awesome turbine noises

Thanks!
I'm going to finish tunning the T3 begi miata and sell it to finish the Camaro. I kinda hate to sell it. It is clean, mod suspension, roll bar, standalone computer, fuel pressure gauge, exaust temp gauge, motor with around 40,000 miles. The JDM motor has just been installed.

I guess I'll have to turbo my girlfriends green 1.8L miata. LOL

Cspence 12-15-2009 10:31 PM

whoa whoa whoa....you never said anything about selling a boosted miata to fund this project in the beginning. Bad idea, burnouts and going fast in a straight line :ne: the miata.

QFT. I just wet myself.

triple88a 12-16-2009 12:49 AM

haha that sounds like a turbo cummins :D

I love it.

I've only seen 1 guy do a rear mount on a miata and from what i could read he blew his motor or something.

magnamx-5 12-16-2009 02:03 AM

um what are you doing about the weak ass 10 bolt man? Are you just not gonna run sticky tires? And you dont have ltedit? if he is gonna keep the car you might look into that.

Pen2_the_penguin 12-16-2009 05:34 AM

creamed myself after just hearing it... and orgasmed after seeing it. Good work!

gospeed81 12-16-2009 08:35 AM

Wait...I didn't catch the part about selling the Miata for a stinkin' F body project.

That sucks.

haven't done anything with it yet. rebuilding the motor and working on a COP system and gonna do a clutch while the motors out so it's gonna be another month or so

I still have a 99 green miata. (or I mean my girls. LOL :giggle:)

She wants it turbo'ed when she graduates this summer. And I'm tired of insurance on 4 cars.

YouTube - burnouts at 70 mph on slicks

I love that video. I tried searching for it the other day and couldn't find it. Any of you guys ever see the STS TT Vette commercial? YouTube - STS Corvette~Viper

I love the sound.

johnmatt 12-16-2009 04:56 PM

So awesome. Give me like 4 years and it'll be coming from the back of a ls2 miata

1slowna 12-18-2009 12:16 PM

dude the viper spec t56s can be had for under 2 grand and they hold anything. we have one in our 03 cobra shop car and its putting down 960 to the wheels no broken trannies yet. and the ls1 long block itself shouldn't have trouble with 550hp. when i was worjking at race related we did a custom rear mount twin 67mms on a ls2 c6 vette and it made just over 800 to the wheels with a stock long block on 14psi even stock clutch held up for quite a while (possibly because of mass weight reduction). 475whp f body is like a 275hp miata that cant turn or stop.

haha love how the the boost gauge on the website of the remote turbo video is showing 6 psi and then it says "major hp increase" on the next slide.

Also from the looks of it they are running injectors in the back.

6psi on an ls1 is good for around 480-500whp

I love that. It will be hard not to run 8 psI. But I dont want to trash it.

triple88a 12-22-2009 04:36 PM

Well good luck with that kit man, All the comments i've read about the STS have been that its leaking, its crapping out, its flooding due to the fact thats its way way bellow the oil pan and so forth. One person even said it trashed his engine since the kit runs an oil line all the way to the back and then the other way to the front.

1. Leaks.
Yea, that's why I'm installing it myself. Some of that is due to the older kits bottoming out. If mine is hanging low, I'll try to raise it up.

2. Oil Line.
It has a pump inline on the oil line. And I watch my oil guage, and oil levels.

3. Cooling IS Awsome! It not only has the coolest intake temps. I got the HUGE FRONT MOUNT IC with the kit, and Meth Injection.

Now if the guy would take it off his car, and ship it.

He keeps making excuses. But the holiday season only goes so far. I don't know why some people procrastinate.

triple88a 12-24-2009 07:24 PM

You sure? From what i know if the turbo is lower than the level of the oil in the oil pan you will be burning oil. I dont know how true that is but thats just something i've read on here.

Keep your eye on the date man, he could be making excuses to run out the clock for u to file that he stole ur money.

Good point, I'll start a claim today...

triple88a 12-25-2009 04:08 PM

if he ships it right away make sure you get a working tracking number, a lot of times they will give u a fake tracking number and say "oh it should work in few hours" just to get paypal to think "oh he shipped it his proof is right there".

miata_drift 12-30-2009 01:16 PM

Why would you ever put the turbo in the back. I'm not being a smart ass I really don't know. My friend and I were talking about this the other day. I know you get better cooling but if thats the point wouldn't you just buy a bigger ic?

My LT1 engine bay...
http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0019_large.jpg

Installing longtube's on an LT1 car takes about 6-8 hours... JUST the headers. There's ZERO room in there especially for a big turbo. LS1's are build on the same chassis and offer a little more room under the hood in the exhaust areas, but not much.

Rear mounts for V8 cars work because you don't have to buy expensive turbo headers, your underhood temps remain the same as stock, and you can skip the intercooler if you'd like. In stock engine applications, you're only boosting 5-6psi anyway. If it weren't for the expensive ass oiling systems and the scare factor of your engine's oil being plumbed under the car where road debris is always a threat, I'd have rear mounted mine long ago.

Bond 02-11-2010 11:26 PM

I replaced a cracked header on our Z28 and it was a bitch. There just isn't enough room and my body always cramps up working in tight areas.

Are you going to be able to push 400whp with the rear mount?
