Manifold and IWG Concern
 
I just got my new parts from BEGi, and this may be nothing at all, but concerns I have nonetheless.

On the new (log) manifold, the flange that meets the turbine got ceramic coated. I thought it was best to have bare metal there?

On the internal wastegate, when the flapper is being held closed, I can still see light around the edges from the inside of the turbine inlet. Upon investigation, I thought it was because there was a small ridge of metal sticking up from where the port had been ported by Bell, so I took a file to it and got the edges completely smooth. The flapper closed better, but still can see light coming in around the edges. Problem or normal? (figured it might be an expansion thing if it's normal) Don't have another turbine housing to compare to.

The ceramic shouldn't cause any issues but you could hit it with a steel brush in a drill to clean it off without damaging the machined surface any.

The wastegate flap should sit flush as any leak will slow spool. If you're just being super duper picky about it though I wouldn't worry. A large apparent gap won't matter that much though. Can you file on it anymore to deburr it?

I may do that then, it's completely flat as it should be, I put a straight-edge on it.

The flapper and port are completely deburred and smooth now, some of the flapper surface was rough too. It's not a ton of light coming through, so no big gaps, I can just see it. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be a problem, I don't need any boost issues. lol

Here's a picture I just took holding the turbine housing over a lamp with the flapper arm held shut as tight as possible. Granted, it's pretty close to the bulb.

that doesnt look too good...I dont think its a big deal either, but id try to shave it down so its smooth enough on both sides to close all the way. just my .02

I've tried what I feel comfortable doing. I just can't seem to get it to sit flush to where I can't see light.

The flapper itself has been. I don't have a straightedge however that will fit down in that small of a space.
And this is a brand new damn turbo.

OK, I just discovered the issue on the IWG port. There is still a ridge of metal that's catching my fingernail in the back corner where I can't get a file on it. Guess it'll be Dremel time...

if its a band new turbo id contact BEGi and see what they can do before trying to fuck with it. after all, you paid a good chunk of change, you deserve a good product.

Ceramic coating on top of the manifold is fine. It will not hurt anything, nor cause a leak.

I will check on the flapper though. I do not think we messed with it, but I will make sure. What brand was the turbo you send us? I don't remember, sorry.

Stephanie, I sent you an email last night detailing more of this. It's a Garrett GT2871R. The IWG was ported on the inside of the turbine inlet and you can see that the port was opened up as well from the outside. There was a lip of metal sticking up and causing interference with the flapper, and it came off easily with a file, but there is a smaller lip of metal sticking up where it is impossible to get to without the proper tools.

I'd love to have done that, and I want to do that, but you forget, I already have the BEGi separated gases downpipe.

so. do it anyway. youll just have a tube that does nothing lol

on second though, cut the tube off, weld it shut, and use it as a dump tube for the external wg :)

Dude, I am not hacking up that downpipe. Besides, I'd rather ask Bell to take it back and let me exchange everything for S5 manifold and downpipe, but that would be a huge freaking hassle. I just want this fixed at this point. :)

Yep, that's what I got. Except I can't get in there very easily.
The problem is in the upper right corner, basically under the arm.

They do trim the flapper. If the play in the flapper does not cover it, we can switch it out for a new flapper. Sorry about that!

I don't think that the flapper is the problem. It is smooth and flat. The port hole was not deburred, and I do not have anything to get in the corner and smooth it off.
However, I did email you about this and another concern I had.
