megasquirt PNP

SO i just got my student loan and was thinking about the megasquirt PNP and didnt know what bandaids this would replace i dont want to go the bandaid route so if i wanna go megasquirt what order should i buy things my current mods few are in my sig and do you need a laptop to tune with?????

magnamx-5 09-09-2007 12:39 PM

Yes you need a laptop to tune with. In a pinch a palm can work. MS will do everything provided you get sime big injectors.

turbobluemiata 09-09-2007 01:41 PM

does it do timing to like bipes??? and what about an o2 clamp wont be needed either right?????

turbobluemiata 09-09-2007 01:45 PM

and the 700 dollar PNP is anything else needed???? or is that all of it in a nutshell?

akaryrye 09-09-2007 01:50 PM

you dont need fuel pump, bipes, o2clamp, or anything to control your fuel and spark other than some bigger injectors and that megasquirt. Im using rx7 550's personally

turbobluemiata 09-09-2007 02:06 PM

im confused on how you dont need a better fuel pump?

turbobluemiata 09-09-2007 02:07 PM

so does the megasquirt have to do with removing the afm?

cjernigan 09-09-2007 02:10 PM

You don't need a better fuel pump because you're running at lower fuel pressures. With a AFPR you are increasing the fuel pressure to get more fuel. With MS a good stock fuel pump is all you need because MS controls the injectors not the fuel pressure to get you to your desired A/F.
You can remove the AFM with megasquirt but you will need to install a IAT sensor to replace the one that is built into the AFM.

With larger injectors, you don't require a new fuel pump - the stock pump has enough capacity at stock fuel pressures for at LEAST the size of injectors you're likely to run (460's, 550's, etc). To remove the AFM, you need to replace the IAT (intake air temp sensor) in the AFM with a GM IAT. I think it's about $40-50 at diyautotune.com. It's necessary if you're going to turbo the car anyway, as you want to measure the intake temps at the throttle body, not before the compressor intake.

Cheers!

okay thanks alot guys you really helped me decide that i want it

Mach929 09-09-2007 02:38 PM

ms pnp rocks, all you need is the unit, the appropriate sensors to ditch the maf and a laptop to tune it......you'll also want bigger injectors since that's kind of the whole point.

i'm running rx7 550cc injectors that actually flow 620cc, my log from yesterday peaking at 13.7psi shows 61% duty cycle with like an 11.8:1 afr

I am going to start banning people who ask NEWB questions that are thouroughly discussed in the FAQ

On a different note, I'm not your daddy so I can't tell you how to spend your money... but if you have to get a loan to afford the go-fast bits... :nono:

Mach929 09-09-2007 06:09 PM

yeah seriously, might not be the best use of that money

Arkmage 09-09-2007 11:35 PM

that whole "it will be easy to pay off after I graduate and have a real job" thing is totally false too.... ask me how I know (>$50,000 in student loans)

magnamx-5 09-09-2007 11:43 PM

yep spending your college moneys on boost is bad dude.

turbobluemiata 09-09-2007 11:58 PM

i already paid for my school just gettin student loan cuz they offered lower interest than any banks i went to

clay 09-14-2007 08:32 AM

I gotta agree. Do everything you can to graduate debt-free. It will make a huge difference down the road. That's one of the reasons I can afford to play with cars now.

turbobluemiata 09-14-2007 10:59 AM

ohh trust me im trying to be debt free none as of now this student loan i just got i already payed 50percent of it back! so i owe 500 dollars

Unless your parents are paying for your college up front it just isn't possible to be debt free coming out of college. Especially with the almost exponentially rising costs of it.
