Moving to San Diego from Canada

Hey all,

I'm moving from Toronto, Ontario, Canada to San Diego in the coming weeks.

For customs, I had to get a letter from Mazda North America stating that my car meets FMVxxx stating that my 1990 miata meets EPA standards, etc.

The letter states that it does, however, it DOES NOT meet CARB requirements.

My miata has a base greddy kit that I bought from this board. I understand that I can get a CARB sticker from greddy.

Does anyone know if this will be ENOUGH to be passed/certified?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.....

Marcelo

my car was brought over from hawaii and it needed to be checked by the dmv and they didnt even ask about the turbo all they looked for was a sticker under the hood. im guessing getting the greddy carb paperwork wouldnt hurt but yes it should be fine. im located in sandiego in case you need any help....

Maverick, welcome to some of the best roads in North America! The San Diego Miata club does frequent group rides through the mountains and canyons, you must get in touch with them.

It will also be of help to you that Greddy's US headquarters is located in Irvine, which is only about 130km north of San Diego. When I bought my Greddy kit it was missing the sticker, so I drove up to their office and asked for one. Despite the bad rep some of Greddy's products have, they turned out to be a bunch of very competant and nice people.

Sounds good. I'm actually going to try emailing them first.....if that doesn't work, then I'll make sure to "drive by" when I arrive.

Thanks!

Haha, I'm in the process of moving BACK to san diego from the armpit of SoCal, the Inland Empire, i.e the Riverside/Corona area. It sucks balls. Anyways...

Where are in San Diego are you moving to?

You SHOULD be alright with the papers you have now, but who knows. It all depends on the guy on the other end. Some are lenient and some are dicks.

My wife is going to work at Qualcomm.....so we'll likely be in one of those apartment complex/resort type places for the first several months. We don't know the "communities" very well....so that will give us time to explore where we'd like to live (read: where we can afford to live).

My guess is we'll end up in Encinitas area somewhere.....

Any suggestions would be welcome!!

As for the papers - if anyone knows any friendly shops....that would also be greatly appreciated.....

no offense to any of the mexican people on the board, but in my town, we have all these fucking beaner ass wannabe mexican gangsters who tote guns and cause all kinds of problems in town. There was an aquaintance of mine who recently was held up outside of a liquor store by a young mexican to buy liquor for him, several people have been killed in gang violence in the last few years. My town is also considered much safer than Fresno, Modesto, Sacramento, Stocton and the other Central Cali towns around.
