New greddy kit installed..weird noise.

Hi, I just finished installing my greddy kit and for the first time boosting i hear a wining noise much like a bad alternator bearing or something..it comes at about 4-6k. I dont know much about turbos but i am not sure i like that sound..
How could i confirm that the turbo is getting oil???

Thanks

jbrown7815 07-06-2010 08:25 PM

Maybe exhaust leak if it starts with boost

You're going to get flamed for not having an intro post :p

dustinb 07-06-2010 08:42 PM

Are you sure it's not your turbo spooling and sucking in air?

kotomile 07-06-2010 10:22 PM

Needs more videos.

If you hooked your lines up correctly. It is probably just the spooling your hearing.

Make sure your drain line is all down hill, no inclines at any points.

Need video's. and watch some on youtube to see if theres does the same thing.
Thats a fun kit.

lol. When i read the title to this thread, that was my kneejerk reaction:

"That weird noise is a problem with your exhaust and intake modifications. The best way to make the noise go away is to reinstall the stock unmodified header. Once that is complete, your weird noise will go away"

And then i read this

OP Being serious? Since I'm only 95% sure that it IS the turbo, I'm not going to call you a dipshit yet. If I'm right, I'll post the 1-word response "dipshit". LAWL!

sixshooter 07-07-2010 12:36 PM

Are the turbo bearings bad and the compressor or turbine is rubbing against housing? If you reach in and spin the compressor by hand can you make it rub against the housing at all?

adore 07-07-2010 01:52 PM

OK.. The sounds looks like my temporary charge pipe is loosing boost.. getting a new one made today.

BTW, before calling someone dipshit, please ask some question before judging...
Take a look at my build thred:

I might have misread (sarcasm) but he did say he'll wait to see this develop. Then he will just simply post "dipshit", if his assumption was right.

Don't they teach you how to read over at CR.net?

Clean car btw. Needs more hardtop

lordrigamus 07-07-2010 02:15 PM

Perhaps you could be a little more vague and say something even less descriptive than " my turbo is making some noise" so the chances of someone being able to help you could be hindered even more.

On a side note, you're not impressing anyone here by mentioning a clubturdster post...

DIPSHIT!!!

Then, needs more roll-bar :giggle: English is my second language too. Just know that if you get butt-hurt in this site, you lose. Keep that in mind.

God I want that color

It doesn't really look like that. The pic is very oversaturated and post-processed. Just look at how the color in the barns in the background "pop." Barns don't usually "pop." But it is a very attractive automobile. I like it very much.

Look up pics of Danscreations car on this site. It is the same color and looks really sharp also.

lordrigamus 07-08-2010 09:23 PM

He's awful quiet, I hope he's ok!

adore 07-09-2010 11:15 AM

Lol, dont be overdramatic.. i am wating to get the car tonight with the new piping.

buffon01 07-09-2010 11:31 AM

Sarcasm. Your not good at it :ugh2:

adore 07-09-2010 12:41 PM

Maybe.
On another note, does anybody experienced fitment issues with the greddy downpipe knocking on the trans housing? It does it when declutching in 1st or reverse?

lordrigamus 07-09-2010 12:44 PM

IIRC it didn't hit on mine. I'm sure there are little inconsistencies between different production runs, though.

adore 07-09-2010 01:24 PM

This, or the racing beat mid-pipe and highflow cat make it lean towards the transmission. I will try to unbolt all the exhaust/manifolds bolts and see if I can gain some clearance.

mekaw 07-10-2010 04:11 AM

it's hard tno not judge when you didnt first make intro post lol therefore we have no idea who you are and what your setup is like etc etc

adore 07-18-2010 06:17 PM

I got my car back with the new aluminium charge pipe no more wierd sonds.. Thanks for your help

Full_Tilt_Boogie 07-18-2010 06:46 PM

Make an intro thread.

Your car is pretty nice.
Needs moar FMIC

adore 07-19-2010 12:34 PM

Yeah I will make one when i get more recent pics.

adore 07-25-2010 12:39 PM

I changed the placement off the MAF:
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...6/ac47e93f.jpg
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...6/8bdf5447.jpg

i would like you guys opinion: is the stock greddy location is better? I seem to have lost throttle response.

ger 07-25-2010 02:13 PM

I still have my AFM but have it set up like this.

http://www.gerfitzgerald.com/car/IMG_8007.jpg

Good response and cool intake temps.

Where you have your filter and AFM gives very high intake temps.

You really need some heat shielding and a FMIC

viperormiata 07-25-2010 03:48 PM

The car looks good. Welcome to the boosted life, it only gets better as you learn more.

Now please do as we so politely asked and make a introduction thread. It makes it alot easier on us if we know who you are, what is specifically done to your car, shoe size, preffered condiments, paper or plastic, etc...

adore 08-05-2010 11:13 PM

Thanks, but i think i am gonna trade/sale the kit...I feel like going back to N/A with IRTB's

lulz.

buffon01 08-05-2010 11:35 PM

He just posted a FS ad. He "does not like the feel of FI" so he's looking to trade the kit for ITB  And you guys think Im fail, pffff

I certify this thread

viperormiata 08-06-2010 01:28 AM

I hope he realizes that ITB's are going to less reliable and much more work than a stock Greddy kit. Especially when you want a kit with a "pre-tuned" ECU.

Beautiful car though, very nice tuck/shaved bay.

FIFY ;)

I told him there's no such thing as a pre-tuned ECU, and that the best would be to use a base map and adjust accordingly. Then he comes back and says he knows that, and all he wants is an ECU with a very good base map

True, some people like it in the ass :dunno:

See I can understand when someone say... Im tired of turbo, and I want a LS1. I can't seem to comprehend.... I doint like turbo, and the ability to double the power on my car easily. Im going ITB.

What are you doing with the car that you chose to go with ITB instead of the GReddy kit? When I first boosted my car I had the GReddy kit and was decently happy, even though it wasn't that much of a power adder. I cut off that shitty downpipe and used the flange and fabbed a 3" one that would accept a WB02, installed a manual boost controller and did all the other necessary things, such as FMIC, BOV and fuel tuning (and a bunch of other things that prompted my current engine build, ha ha). Unless you're doing an engine swap, you're not going to get very good power from an ITB setup. Unless your compression is 1897689164790123:1 and you use a NON-MAZDA-MIATA head.

It's not bashing on you. If you read correctly you would have noticed that Buffoon01 changed the word "bay" to "penis" in my post. LOLOLOL, it's just what we do here. Taking offense is the last thing you should do, especially from a bunch of closet homos who use the internet to flex their e-muscles and talk shit because most of them are huge pussies and talking shit in person is dangerous:giggle:

Also, this MiataTURBO.net, we like us some turbos here. Not really a good place to be looking for a trade of ITB's for your turbo kit.

Good luck though and as I said before, beautiful car.

Thanks, i think i may be a bit on the edge, thats all. and yes i actually lol at the penis joke:giggle:

I did the turbo kit actually because it was the easiest/fastest power mod i could do when my short nose blew. Since i had my car i planned to go IRTB or nice 130whp N/A i do about 1000miles a year on the car and its only for pure fun not racing or going stupid fast. I understand that going N/A will never, ever get me in the same HP numbers then F/I but that was never my intention.

buffon01 08-06-2010 01:40 PM

You can be more than reliable with a turbo al 130whp.

And for less money as well. Also, you will save time, plus get an awesome turbo sound, ha ha. But, to each their own. I personally would only go N/A if I had more than 6 cylinders and a boatload of displacement.
