Newby? HOW DO I INCREASE MY BOOST???

My set-up is in my sig....and I have an IC on the way....So, between the 1.8 injectors, Bipes and the IC I would like to increase from stock boost...maybe to 7-8 PSI.....

Is it all in shorting the rod?
Is it in changing the vacume?
Do you have to open it up and play with the internal wastegate?

Thanx

miatamania 05-31-2007 04:26 PM

You could play around with a manual boost controller, check out the FAQ on how to build a lowes DIY one. Or use a cheap ebay one, a lot of guys use those around here.

Danimal 05-31-2007 04:34 PM

How and where is the boost controller mounted?

curly 05-31-2007 04:40 PM

inline on the vacuum line going from the compressor housing to the wastegate. with your current setup you'd probably be safe with 6-7psi of boost, 7-8 once you install your intercooler. although set your bipes to pull 8* of timing at 6psi, and 10* at 7psi. you could set it back to pulling 6* once you install the intercooler.

Thanx Curly, Do you suggest just building the simple MBC that Brain talks about in the DIY projects?

cjernigan 05-31-2007 04:53 PM

Many people that build their own end up buying the $10-15 ebay one just because it bleeds off a little better or something like that.
You could build the DIY one and have it today while you wait for a ebay one if you choose that route.

Danimal 05-31-2007 04:54 PM

Another ? if I build the MBC the Brain talks about, doesn't that just reduce/regulate boost? So therefore I would have to shorten the rod to increase boost, then regulate/reduce with adjusting the spring on Brain's MBC? correct???not correct??
Thanx

Danimal 05-31-2007 04:59 PM

What ebay one are you speaking of exactly?

Thank you

reducing boost?! :gay: you can't reduce boost....you're getting somwhere with regulating...or controlling, hense manual boost controller....you manually adjust your boost level.

you need to learn yourself some son...http://www.autospeed.com/A_107770/cms/article.html

if you understood exactly how a turbo works, then you would know how a MBC...let alone the wastegate works.

Danimal 06-01-2007 12:02 AM

I understand that a turbo increases the air density thus effecting the air/fuel ratio....and a wastegate allows the exhaust to bypass the turbo to regulate boost, increase spool up and reduce the temperature of the turbo......but all turbos are different some with internal, external and no wastegate...

What I don't understand is the best way to increase boost on the GReddy and how the wastegate is controled....I assume vacume controls the wastegate......

neogenesis2004 06-01-2007 12:28 AM

Say I have an arbitrary MBC set to 15psi and the actuator of the internal WG of my Greddy turbo is only 5psi. The MBC would not allow the actuator to see ANY positive pressure (PSI) until the MBC has come close to or surpassed 15psi. It is much like a series circuit. You have to go through the MBC before you can reach the actuator.

Brain, thank you for the link....that helps

Danimal. I have one you can test out. or better yet, order this thing.. http://cgi.ebay.com/BLU-TURBO-BOOST-...QQcmdZViewItem I have the same one and i plan on running 8psi and My set up is identical to yours, im just waiting for a good deal on a fuel pump : / Give me a call sometime tommorrow 916 370 8395

Slidin'Miata916 07-04-2007 05:29 PM

Did you ever get that IC set up Dan?

weitau 07-06-2007 12:43 AM

If you really want to splurge, go for a 2 stage MBC. 1 stage MBC just bleed air that should have helped the turbo spool up and avoids turbo boost spikes. On a 2 stage MBC, the first stage is controlled by a stiff ball/spring. This will get you into your target boost ball park. Then the 2nd stage lets you fine tune the boost by 1/2 psi.

I've been using one for two years, and never had a boost spike that could have killed my motor. Bought it from a guy on eBay, who still answers my support email today. ebay listing #300127883674

92yella 07-11-2007 01:53 PM

can you over tighten the waste gate?

cjshem 07-14-2007 01:07 AM

Instead of installing a "Manual" Boost Control, to increase the boost, could you use an "Electronic" Boost Control...is there such an animal? Are there any advantages/disadvantages? Who makes them?

Slidin'Miata916 07-14-2007 05:15 AM

Are you serious? are you asking if there is such thing of an electronic boost controller? Do a search anywhere, whether its the forums or google, and you will get LOTS of info :D

magnamx-5 07-14-2007 07:48 AM

92 yella yes you can it is just a rubber diapghram dealy.
You can reduce boost but that is another story. ;) A MBC reduces the boost signal to the WG by either delaying its action or bleeding it off, via a small port. A EBC or electronic boost controller drives a solenoid that regulates the WG signal allowing you to tailor your boost level to what ever you like so long as the turbo can support that much boost at that rpm. Seriusly dude spend about 3-4 hours rooting around here and you will see why we joke so much. This stuff is simple it is just that some people have trouble invisioning it, and get frustrated etc. But that is ok to we all get abit :vash: sometimes and :crx: stuff into a million pieces. The important thing to tell yourself is this is simple make a basic mental checklist from the faqs etc hell write shit down, to stay organized and you will likely surprise your self. GL man

QEeddyTurbo 07-23-2007 01:22 AM

What manifold would you need to run a Greddy T67 turbo on a 93 miata 1.6 ?
Im new to the forum thing send a private message if you have any info.
