Yes it is! I'm actually kind of glad. Sucks for my timeline and likely means the Miata won't be making it to Road Atlanta this month, but I sort of enjoyed the experience. It's a less scary thought now. I only wish I'd have done it to start with. The engine is SO much easier to work on out of the car, and the bay looks awesome now. Still cluttered with modern car wiring and vac lines, but very clean!! Makes me happy.

As soon as I get that remote oil setup, the engine is going back in. Hoping for Saturday.

If I manage to get the MS installed and sorted I could maybe make the Mitty with this car, but I'm a little afraid of driving so much "new" and untested so far from home. I'll probably take the Speed-3 cuz I'm a weenie.

Glad you got it figured out... I just did almost the same thing...

Good time to change Oil Pump while you're in there for another piece of mind!
If you don't have a real Oil pressure gauge, putting the sender on now is easy too.

For the oil relocation kit, I would undo the fittings in the oil filter mount, clean up the threads, reseal them, and put them back in.

As for driving newness... the next day after installing my turbo kit, all my suspension stuff I drove 7 hours to Minnesota lol. Only issue... I didn't tighten a brake calliper bolt and it fell off. Whoops! Luckily my buddy was driving his miata with me and we stopped at an autozone and grabbed a bolt that fit and drove on!

I've sealed it all back up, but curious. Is there any real reason to change the oil pump?

What do they get sealed with? Don't know much about AN fittings. Never used them on anything before. Does that oil supply for the turbo use a 4-AN? I plan to cap that off.

That brake caliper bolt thing? That's exactly the kind of thing I want to avoid. I'm also REALLY freaked about the MegaSquirt not being set up/installed/ stable by that time. I have a lot to learn yet about that thing. I have a Jim Stim for it and have no idea how to even use that yet.

Per FM:

I'd suggest using a thread sealer that's specifically intended for hydraulic fluid. We use this stuff (http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut...ad_Sealant.htm) and it seems to work very well.

I believe so, it's the same size as the oil line that the FM kit comes with... which I think is 4-AN.

Thanks, man.

Piece of mind. The stock gears seem to be prone to crack under vibration. An ATI pulley will keep the motor safe as well, but thats almost $600.

My new pump assembly from boundary was far less then that and improved the flow of oil at high rpms. I love it.

I considered it, but it seems like something that's only really necessary when you start to make real power. If I ever build an engine with real rods, I'll do the Boundary Eng. gears for sure.

On my original oil pump, the bore for the pressure relief valve eroded to the point that too much oil was bypassing back to the pan and I had poor oil pressure, sometimes it would stick open and I would have no oil pressure. I will look in that bore each time I have the engine out of a Miata from now on.
