nissan s13 sr20det turbo any good for miata

I found a turbo localy the guy says it is for a s13 sr20det. He says it is .80 a/r comp and .64 a/r turbine.
Would this be an ok turbo for a vvt 1.8. Will it be more laggy than the 2554 on my 1.6. At what rpm do you figure I would be fully spooled. 3k or 4k?

Should I buy it if I can get if cheap?

Search 'sr20 t25' you'll get plenty of info. I just picked a newly rebuilt one up for $100 locally.

It is a 2554, dude.

Worth $50 used and $100+ freshly rebuilt

It's journal bearing, and flows a bit less than a 2554r... still on a VVT 1.8, I would expect to start spooling around 1600-1800, and be fully spooled at 3500 at the latest... assuming good exhaust. I know that some guys have managed to make like 15psi in the low 3000's.

On the other hand, above 3000rpm, it's like the turbo is directly connected to the gas pedal... there is fantastic response especially on the VVT motors. You might manage 240whp out of one if running 93octane and a big exhaust, but I'd say that 225-230whp is about right for 14-15psi on the SR20det turbo, and that 240whp figure should be a piece of cake with a 2554r, a piece of cake yes, but also MAX.

Something else to think about is that you're giving up a crap-ton of midrange torque vs. the 2560 and only sacrificing a few hundred rpm of spool that on the street you won't miss.

I just picked up two of these. Need to clock one though :vash:

As everyone said its a 2554. Easily rebuildable. Easy to clock pusha, but you will need to make a bracket for the wastegate actuator.

I made 225 on mine.

I did some reading, doesn't look too bad. Thanks.

I just need to actually do it, lol.

could I use the cold side housing from my bb 2554. It is already the right size for my piping?

The sr20 turbo is what I've chosen for my first build. Got one in good condition off the Zilvia forum a couple months ago for $120 shipped, and there's never a lack of supply for these turbos over there. Everyone ditches them for a T28 or some other larger turbo it seems, so you can pick them up on the cheap. It appears that I'll have to clock mine also and make a bracket for the actuator, but I like making stuff so no big deal.
