Oil Leak
The other day I drove about 40 miles and lost 2 quarts of oil. When I opened the hood there was oil everywhere. My first thought was that the front seal had gone. After I got the timing belt covers off the area was pretty dry. I would think if I was loosing that much oil from the front seal the TB would be soaked. Upon further inspection I found that the turbo oil return line was a little loose at the block and brittle.
Question: Do you guys think I could loose 2 quarts of oil in 40 miles of highway driving from the return line or should I keep looking for the leak? The hose wasn't loose enough to pull off but I could twist it with my hand. Standard Gerddy install with the 5 foot return line running to the right side of the engine. Line was downhill all the way. |
I would NOT think that the leak was the oil return line.

Though it could be if the crank case pressure is high enough. It's amazing what 20# of blow by will "blow by".

Bought some ¾” heater hose today, hopefully it will fix the problem. I’ll pick up some hydraulic hose on Friday, my next weekday off.

two thoughts: failed pcv valve & improper plumbing

I'll pick up a PCV valve tomorrow. Thanx.
