oil restrictor???

ok well here is the story i bought my greddy kit used installed in august last year without rebuilding the turbo ran fine for about 2-3 months then started burning oil. so i bought a rebuild kit and finally rebuilt it in january well when i rebuilt it i notiiced grooves in my shaft but thought it was ok. then about 3months later started burning oil again. so i figured i would rebuild it with a new shaft so i called up gpopshop and got another rebuild kit and a new shaft and well now a month after rebuilding it she is burning oil when the car is pushed hard, i have been told by a freind i might need to run an oil restrictor because im probably pushing too much oil pressure to the turbo. i now have my return to the oil pan and i though that would fix it but it didnt so. im wundering what else could it be. this is really starting to piss me off. what else can i check????? i have the breather hose hooked up with a catch can so i know its not getting oil from there also my ic pipes are fine so its not coming through there. what else can i do to fix this. im pulling the turbo off here in a couple days to replace my turbo to many studs with bolts since one is turning into the mani so i cant tighten it. so what can i look at???? also im running a -4an feed line with the banjo fitting on the turbo side. were would i install the rivet as a restrictor in my system????

Well, here's an easy first question: are you using the oil line and fittings that Greddy supplied with the kit? If not, then, yes, I would say we need to look at what size line you're using. I'm told the Greddy-supplied line is a -3AN, however, I'm using a -4AN line with my TD04-13C turbo (very similar to yours) with no problems for over 2 years, now.

my line is a -4an line

ok well as of today i have noticed that when i push it hard all the way into boost then let off to shift as soon as i get back into the gas it shoots a large cloud of smoke out the exhaust??????? what now im gunna replace my pcv valve again today. also gunna check my spark plugs to see what they look like. but my intercooler pipes are clean no oil.what the hell can i do now????

where's your breather line going?

Slidin'Miata916 06-26-2007 11:06 AM

I think I had the same problem before. Brain, Could it be blow by? Wild Guess...

drftem 06-26-2007 11:16 PM

my breather line is going to the intake just after the vaf and just before the trubo.

ive been told today by one of my 240 owner freinds that its probably unburnt fuel but i dont know could it be flowing that much to cause that???? like this is a big cloud of smoke that trails behind me for a couple seconds

drftem 06-27-2007 12:00 AM

another thing i just realized is that the smoke looks like cigerette smoke so i guess kinda grey wouldnt that be fuel? or coolant????

bripab007 06-29-2007 11:28 AM

Unburnt fuel is black smoke, coolant is white smoke and oil/blow-by is bluish-white smoke.
