Opinions on tuning N/A with wastegate wired open
Wondering what the general opinion is for tuning n/a with the wastegate wired. Recently received Mkturbo complete kit. I want to install all the physical parts of the turbo kit (-injectors) so There's not as much waiting around as I have to send the ecu out for repair (will take about 2 maybe 3 weeks). is it highly unrecommended that I do this, or should I be fine as long as I keep the wastegate wired open?

only if you baby it, shift under 4k. my Wastegate wired open will still hit 11psi by redline |

There are very few turbo's (internally gated) that will be able to hold 0 boost to redline. Very few. So he's right and be careful (seems like you're already planning to be tho)

I never said I'd drive it at all in first post. I just wanted to get some tuning with it with the stock injectors in and have it running nice before putting in ff injectors and starting to get into boost.

unless you will wire wastegate open, and sit idling in your driveway for said tune? ok, i am done. i feel like im in the twilight zone, nothing you say or post makes any sense to me. |
Sorry I meant no driving it around with the stock ecu, and the driving that would happen would be with the megasquirt in. But ecu is out for repair and I want to install the the physical components now besides the injectors. Then when ecu gets back do n/a tuning and stay out of boost until that part is all good then start going into boost

From what i understood you want to learn engine management on a NA setup first before you get into boosting right? So you plan on installing all the turbo parts, wait for the ms to get repaired, install it and open the wastegate to "simulate" a NA car. What everybody here is saying is, that you are still able to hit boost even when the wastegate is stuck open. So keep that in mind. Or just wait with the turbokit installation if you want to learn on an na car first. I hope i figuered out what you are trying to do. Let it be said that this procedure is not really common.

Just have a pipe made to bridge your turbo manifold to your downpipe. It could be easily jigged off your turbo and just swap the snail in when you are ready for positive pressure. :p

Tuning the car before changing the injectors is a waste of time - you'll have to start the fuel map over with the new ones. In theory it's simple to change injector size but I found that I had to redo mine when installing FF 660's.
I'm also confused why you would wire the wastegate open instead of just using less throttle, if your goal is to stay away from the boosted cells. Or, unhook your charge piping after the intercooler and stick a filter on it. Boom, N/A miata. |
