Ordered a BEGI-S, have a few questions.

So I just ordered a BEGI-S and a MSPNP for my 1.6. I figured this is a good start however have a couple questions.

1. Can I get away with 5 PSI with the stock injectors and no FPR?

2. Should I install and tweak the MS before I get the turbo on?

gospeed81 01-23-2010 12:41 PM

1. No!

2. Yes!

EDIT: Seriously...I went the MS before turbo route...and never regret it. It was very nice to just be able to GO! once I bolted the turbo on.

1. MS + WBO2
2. Injectors
3. Clutch
4. Turbo
5. ????
6. Profit

You can run the MS naturally aspirated (with stock injectors) to get used to running datalogs and such. Then slap in some bigger injectors, scale your REQFUEL accordingly and run a few logs.

By then you're proficient enough that when you install the turbo you'll be running up to your target boost confidently within an hour of easy tuning. Do engine management first, when at life. Patience pays off when you're talking about boost and bent rods.

You need more fuel than stock ECU and injectors can provide for ANY boost. Stock management is a little rich, but probably just enough to cover the increased volumetric efficiency your compressor will give you up to atmospheric, and not much beyond.

Do you recommend a specific injector size?

I'd go for 550s or thereabouts. It gives you plenty of headroom for around 10psi and they can be had for cheap.

Just my .02.

This.

I got some 460s because they were cheap, but am now going to have to replace them as I'm shooting for 300whp.

In reality 460cc will take you as far as the stock rods can handle. I've still never seen duty cycles over 60%, but I'm also tuned a little lean with the WI.

miatauser884 01-23-2010 02:05 PM

I would definitely get the MS on there and play with it. Coming from a person that is new to MS. There are a lot of parameters to wrap your head around. Tweaking the ms for the turbo afterward will be easy. Especially with the new ve live.

Thanks for the quick answers guys. I guess I will troll ebay for 460 or 550 injectors. I found 1990 RX7 turbo injectors for $42ea on rockauto. They are remanufactured, should those be fine?

buffon01 01-23-2010 06:01 PM

^^ Read the "All you need to know" it has a chart of ALL the injectors that are PNP. I bought my 460cc RX7 for about $60-80 and had them clean and flow tested for ~$64, good fucking deal if you ask me.

Does anyone ever run a fifth injector? Just wondering, I know a few subaru people have done this with the e-manage if the go turbo. The MS probably cant do this but it would be pretty cool. The fifth injector works pretty well from what I've heard, just don't know how you would tune it.

hey regarding question about FPR... does begi now offer the 's' kit with no AFPR? mine came with one... and i may be crazy but i am using toyota 305cc injectors w/the afpr and the MS and i consistently hit 11 AFR at around 10psi.

urabus 01-24-2010 09:26 PM

Yes it does come with the AFPR unless you order the MSPNP instead.

That must be tricky to tune if your fuel pressure is always changing with boost. Or am I thinking wrong. I mean your injector output is always changing, would that me your reqfuel would be different all over the place?

ctxspy 01-24-2010 09:55 PM

you tune the VE table to whatever values you want at a given MAP and RPM.

the afpr may alter the req_fuel but that doesn't really matter b/c you still end up tuning those cells to the correct value, though they technically shouldn't be correct (e.g. if you werent using hte afpr..) That is assuming that the AFPR is working correctly :) so far it seems to be.

at some point i'm sure i'll upgraqde to larger injectors and then get rid of the AFPR but for now its fine.

urabus 01-24-2010 10:17 PM

Ok that makes sense.

Full_Tilt_Boogie 01-24-2010 10:20 PM

get 1000cc injectors
jack's NA says theyll idle just fine

btw, im kidding

urabus 02-28-2010 08:14 PM

Installing my wideband this week and Megasquirt should be in soon. Where do you guys ground all your wires. They are supposed to be as close to the ecu ground as possible, I'm not positive where that is. I was wondering if I can run a large ground wire from that location into the cabin with a ground lug for all my grounds. Or any recommendations please.

FastColt 02-28-2010 08:57 PM

If you can wait a few weeks im selling my Denso 550cc's with 2000 miles on them. I ran them for the summer on my old begi s kit around 250whp at 20psi with plenty of fuel to spare. Plus i can send you a map of the mspnp that i ran with them, you'd have to tweak it to your setup but it'd be a great start.

urabus 03-01-2010 02:54 PM

Already got injectors.
