PCV, how should I run it?
 

Right now I have the stock set up off the intake manifold. The short hose strait to a stock pcv valve. On the exhaust side I have a hose running to a barb in the U pipe AFTER the afm and BEFORE the turbo.

The problem I'm having is oil is leaking into the turbo. I dont understand PCV systems too much, and I read M2Cupcars post to the honda tech forum. From what I have read the setup I have now is almost ideal. Should I just install a catch can and be done with it? I'm just so confused. I was going to get the 323 GTX PCV valve, but none of my local stores have it. Can you guys help me set it up so it stops leaking oil into the turbo inlet? Thanks.

Get the different PCV valve, that should help.

Or you could try an inline fuel filter between the crankcase and the intake plumbing. It would probably help catch some of the oil, similar the way that a catch can would.

you should put a breather filter on the exhaust side and intake side and block of those power robbing ports.:) Brian and Braineack are gonna kill me for saying that but it is true. dont waste your precius vacuum on oil.

That'll get you started. Yeah, I guess if you want less horsepower, extra blow-by and a decreased engine life, go ahead and just run breather filters on your crankcase vents ;) Oh, and a turbo cartridge that doesn't drain as well, leading to decreased turbo lifespan is an added bonus!

my chra drains just fine :P but i do run straight down to just in front of the motor mounr, and use:P an oversized diameter line.

This on a GReddy kit? are you using the GReddy style return line?

Even with vacuum on the crankcase you might still have a poor drainage system.

Are you burning oil?

Make sure boost is not entering the crankcase, so make sure your PCV valve is working properly.

Some oil in the intake can be filtered out with a catch can.

Please ignore anything Mangamx-5 will tell you about crankcase ventilation or the PCV system. Yes you can run an open crankcase breather filter, but with adverse effects on most systems. It may work on his system, but most people do not want an impropely plumbed system, he still has yet to get this through his head.

I do agree, the PCV is there for a reason. It is on a greddy kit. I drilled the pan, used -10AN line. It isnt strait down, but it's no where near flat spotting at any point. I'm not burning any oil, and none is coming out the tail pipe. When I pull the U shaped pipe with the PCV hose there is a big splat of oil on the opposite wall. Its not pooling on the turbo.
The PCV valve is brand new. After looking threw all my high performance magazines, my set up seems to be the norm. I've checked for any vacuum lines that would cause boost into the crankcase and found none. Only thing I can think to do is add a catch can between the valve cover and U pipe.

Yup, that would probably be the next plan of attack. Sounds like you've probably just got a tired engine with a lot of blow-by, or, as the shop manual for the 200SX stated: "brow-by."

haha. A little bit of oil ain't going to hurt anything the intake. You should have seen the amounts of oil that pooled in my 626 turbo.

Well, it'll begin pitting and hurting the compressor blades, actually. I remember seeing pics of pitted compressor blades on a pre-compressor water-injection setup, and that was with a special bracket that held the nozzle right over the compressor shaft nut, so as to minimize damage and the much finer spray mist of the water...don't underestimate the amount of damage that can happen when you've got little particles being thrown at a fan blad spinning at 100,000 RPM.

Keep it the way you have it. Put a filter inline. Air passes through, oil does not.

No. I didn't keep it this way. (!) A hose runs from the end of the filter to the intake, just as you describe your setup above.

My engine is in great shape. It turned 56K on the drive home. I ran a compression test when I got it and just before turboing and all was well within spec. I think I'm just going to run a catch can. From all the websites I've been reading on, this sounds like a normal thing. Thanks for the input.
