you would need to either weld the little hole shut or attach the wastegate. if you're running external the answer is obvious: weld the hole. otherwise the turbo will operate as if the wastegate flapper is always open, and you will get almost no boost at all

I suggest buying a new turbine housing.
Turbo Housings
It's not listed, but I think that'll fit your GT2854r... they probably also have a v-band model for external gate. Call ATP and they'll set you straight. It's not cheap, but in the end, it'll be done correct.

Except without a gasket. Just machine the turbine exit, and mate it metal to metal. The gasket will blow out.

are you sure about that?????? Must be one of those GT28XXs with the T3 turbine housing, T3 CHRA, and T3 compressor housing......

What do the numbers on that red serial plate read?

does your turbine inlet measure 1.8" x 2.3" or 1.5" x 1.9"???

We've welded these shut, we just cut a piece of metal to fit, tack it in place inside the hole, then weld around.

Machine the turbine housing flat if you use the block off plate that M2cupcar posted to avoid it leaking.

It is if it's at least a 55 trim. Remove the compressor housing (wastegate actuator and 2 plates on back of the housing) and measure the inducer diameter.

It can output around 27 lb/min.

It will be a turbo with a compressor wheel just slightly smaller than the 2560, but a turbine wheel just slightly larger than the 2860.

It will more or less perform like a 2554, not as fast spooling, but with more power potential. IIRC Arkmage has a t3 with that trim, see his dyno plots: https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t18609/
