Preferred location for an inline fuel pump?

I plan to install an inline fuel pump soon, and wanted input on the best place to install it.

most mount with the fuel filter or under the trunk.

Is that a hose connection? or metal tubing? I am 7,000 miles from my Miata, and can not check my self. I want to have all necessary parts to install this when I return home.
Thanks.

just fuel injection hose is all you need. clamps, zipties, etc.

then you gotta wire up it. power lead up into the cabin and off the fuel pump 12v source, and the ground on the PPF.

What's the advantage to doing an inline vs just swapping out the original pump?

Braineack 08-16-2007 12:29 PM

none so far.

I assume that it will be faster to install an inline pump then to replace the internal one. Time is every thing to me; I am only home 14 days every 5 months. I rather drive then tinker.

acutally it's not. I installed my first inline in about 2hours start to finish.

i installed my first drop-in replacment in 30mins start to finish.

The stock pump is easily available in the Miata. You just take off the carpet on the back shelf and there is a panel there you can remove that gives you access to the fuel pump. Seems like that would be easier than trying to find a place to put the inline pump in and then doing the wiring to get it all setup.

you dont even know how pissed i was when i finally dropped a walbro in another ride....here i was laying on my back and pulling hose and wires all over the place, when all i had to do was pull the carpet back, unscrew, pull , swap, replace.

Yeah, I'll bet. I'm going to do the 190HP swap for my stocker. With almost 195k on the stock I figure it is time for an upgrade anyway.
