Question about the GReddy kit.

So I was planning on turboing my miata and going with the GReddy kit. I was just wondering if the car would run fine with just the kit bolted on and with the FMU that comes with it. Would I need to adjust the timing and will the car still be reliable? Or would it be better to have it tuned?

You will have to retard your timing to atleast 6* depending on outside temps. You'll also have to tune the FMU for the correct AFR. Make sure you go through the FAQ if you haven't yet.

It will be fine with the kit provided you set the timing to 6* like CJ said. You're not going to be happy with the "stock" Greddy kit for long though, I assure you.

Good to see someone else coming to the Miata from the honda world. I had a B16A-swapped CRX Si.

You'll be fine. Adjust the timing as stated already.

Also:

Do the relief cuts on the exhaust manifold. Just do it.

Tighten the wastegate can a bit to eliminate the annoying rattling, but not enough to turn up the boost.

Look into a replacement crossover pipe. The stock plastic accordion tube will balloon and probably pop loose at some point.

Read the DIY FAQ. You won't be satisfied with stock Greddy power for long. Might as well get a head start now on the things you'll need to up the HP.

You won't have to tune it.

The Vortech FMU that comes with it is not adjustable except by putting different disks in it which you won't need as long as you're running stock boost levels.

You will have a very big grin on your face the first time you hit boost!

The first thing you'll likely want to buy would be a timing control device such as the Bipes because you'll have practically no power in off-boost, low rpm situations.
