Question about the GT2560R in FM's kits
 

Hi all,
Looking at getting a mostly complete kit from FM for my NA6. I noticed that the turbo is $1,200 when removing it from the cart.

Is there any reason NOT to source my own GT2560R for significantly cheaper? Are there any special FM exclusive things they do to theirs? I only read that they use a special wastegate bracket, but I see it in their shop for $20.

You are correct, I would search out options on the 2560; I have found them new, for $850.-900. and lots of the items from FM's kit can also be found quite a bit cheaper by searching. I found the same man. boost control for around $40., etc. What I did like from their site is the intercooler one piece hose set, and their ex. manifolds are a proven item. I assembled a copy of their kit by finding some lightly used parts here on MT, and buying some new stuff wherever it was priced best. My kit, coupled with a MS2 has proved to be a good running, powerful combo.

Thank you for the explanation. I want to avoid swapping pieces out from the kit if at all possible, but it's good to know I have options.

I thought their kit was well thought out, and many proven miles, but figured I'd look for the FM items, or stuff they source out, and spend less then all thru them. It worked out well for me.

The turbo that comes with the FM kit has the intake and outlet machined so you can attach an intake or IC pipe directly to it. I believe the standard GT2560R has flanges at the intake and outlet that will require you to use an adapter to do the same thing.

The S15 variant of the 2560r is what requires adapters. The standard one does not and is exactly what FM sells.

Garrett only has one part number for the GT2560R: 836023-5004S. This will have the bolt-on flanges on both sides of the compressor.

I bought my GT2560R from Limit Engineering, who modified the compressor and was at the time the turbo supplier for Flyin' Miata.

Looks like anyone listing a 2560r with a standard compressor housing is either using a stock photo that's completely wrong or it's a variant with an odd turbine like this one. If purchasing FM's turbo makes the installation with their kit easier, it may be well worth the extra cost - so that is essential information. Thanks!

If you're thinking about deleting the turbo from the kit, find out if that also results in deleting the extra parts that attach to it. Oil fittings, coolant fittings, downpipe studs, etc.

Also, I believe when you buy the kit from FM they pre-assemble the manifold, turbo, and downpipe into a single piece that you drop into the car all together, whereas obviously you'd be doing this yourself if you source the turbo elsewhere. There's nothing particularly hard about DIYing this, but it's another difference.

So if I am understanding correctly and from searching vendors, the GT2560R is only available with flanges 836023-5004S.
Unless go to a VBand version. Seems like most everything is the same

Would need to order and attach the adapters.....other than a little added cost, still cheaper than getting from FM.
Could work with any fitment issues but it is not as clean a setup.

Looks as if the GT2860RS might be available with 2.5" In and 2.0" Out? More turbo than I am looking for though.
What other options to fit the FM manifold and DP? Pretty much leaning towards that but the turbo cost is holding me back.
$300 less on turbo can go for other things.....

Am seeing the GT2554R with 2.5" inlet and possibly also 2" outlet. The part numbers and specs from Garrett are a lot to sort thru!
Numbers different vendors list are not accurate either....But seems this is available for around $800.
