Quick update: The elusive dyno test
All,
Just a quick update on my car. I had an appointment with the dyno tomorrow that I unfortunately had to cancel. When testing, I made the mistake of turning up the boost a little too far past 5 psi (12 to be exact :bigtu: ) and now the clutch does nothing but slip in 3rd and 4th under medium power. Dang! I can't say that I'm surprised at all, but I was all ready to see what this thing would do! It does burn them off in 1st and pulls pretty hard in 2nd. The S-AFC/430cc injector/Walbro 190hp/Aermotive FPR install was a big success, as I now have plenty of fuel and can control it as nature intended. The S-AFC works perfectly in this car with the GM map sensor. It drives exactly like a stock Miata under all conditions. In fact, I got 32.6mpg with 70% highway 30% city driving with this setup. I would recommend this route to anyone who can get an inexpensive blue screen S-AFC. A wideband is needed in order to get the tune right. No getting around that. Speaking of widebands, I finally got my hands on one! This one is the Innovate DB kit, but it's got Summit Racing's name on the gauge, and it's cheaper. The install was straightforward and the laptop logging is very cool. http://turbomirage.com/miata/2007_10/IMG_3652.jpg Close-up of the gauge. I'll most likely get rid of that summit logo. http://turbomirage.com/miata/2007_10/IMG_3653.jpg Nighttime shot of the gauge mounted in the car. http://turbomirage.com/miata/2007_10/IMG_3656.jpg That's it for now. I don't want to tear into the clutch, as I want to enjoy the last few weeks of decent weather here. As soon as it gets chilly though, best believe that ACT flywheel/clutch combo is going in! Thanks for reading, -Tom |
dam that sucks about the clutch ..how did you turn the boost up all the way to 12 psi..wideband looks nice

How much did you pay for the wideband?

mike_671: Yeah, I expected the clutch to give out about now, but was hoping to get just a little more life out of it for this dyno test. To turn up the boost, I used an old (Hallman) plain jane ball and spring boost controller in the stock Greddy line that goes from the compressor to the wastegate. I wasn't sure if it would work, but it works great!
Savington: The kit was $249 from Summit Here it is. |
