Rebuilding GReddy Turbo
Is there any writeups on how to do this? I did search, couldn't find anything.
Can it be done by a DIYer? Where can one get the parts to rebuild it? Where can one send it to get rebuilt? or would it be cheaper to buy a used/new turbo? |
follow Samnavy's writeup in my projects link, should be about the same.
|
yeah its pretty much the same. i just rebuilt mine its pretty easy just make sure the snap ring pliers you have are strong enough. that was the only part that took me some time.

I'm not suggesting buying them on ebay. The can be had for less than $10 locally and work great. Might have to file/grind the tips down just a little to get them to go deep in the snapring. |
where did you get the seals et al to rebuild the turbo?

gpopshop.com

How do you know when it is time for a rebuild? Mine does not leak oil but it seems to spool kinda slow from time to time.
|
Check the shaft play; Determines if the bearings have worn down
Check if you are leaking oil out of one of the various seals. Check the condition of the blades. |
Thanks for encouragement.
My daily has ~28000 miles and last I checked the play on the shaft was considerable/scary. No oil consumption noticed yet. I ordered rebuild kit with instructions. We'll see how it goes. hrk |
ok so were is the write up for the rebuild?

DIY section, projects sticky.

I don't mean to be the bumper of old threads, but if you're looking for a turbo rebuild you might want to see these guys.
www.boostplanet.com and have them port, polish, coats, makelove to your turbo in the process. They're prices are pretty reasonable and they're pretty friendly people. I found them through the Subaru boards and when my turbos hit older lives I'm sending them off to these guys. |
good place for someone with a t25 compressor to send along with a T3 wheel to make a t28.
