Default Begi S4 manifold for dual purpose ca?

Hi all.

Considering to run an begi s4 manifold on my car. The car sees track and auto-x duty as well as daily driving.

My question here is, how well does the s4 withstand tracking, I am going to use inconel hardware. Does it crack or does it hold up?

Car is an 2000 NB with a decent chassis, r-s2's or r-comps for track. Will probably see 180-220 whp.

thanks

Seems I missed a key in the title of this thread, Would some moderator just rename it to "S4 on track - do crack?" or something similar that gets ppl looking.

I'd get in touch with Tim at ABSURDflow or Abe at ARTech about a manifold.

Thanks for the input.

Sure, Tim and Abe welds up some really nice, well flowing manis, but on the other hand, so does the s4 seem to be. Anyone who is running, or has been running the S4 on track, please chime in as im considering this for part of a kit from begi. (however, if its a cracker, i might just call one of the weldmasters).

Not too much info on the S4 on MT. Could mean 2 things: 1. not to many are using it. 2. or many using it, are plain happy with it and do not feel the need to write about (complain) it... I still think the starterkit S4 is a very good deal. The complete S4 kit is sold for a lot of money but still a nice kit to considder if time is valuable. I might drop the taco manifold and Volvo turbo idea for this kit...

Schedule-40 pipe is required on a track worthy, tubular set-up these days. Sure, you can use thin-walled material, but I expect the car to go home on a trailer rather than it's own power. I agree that it's a nice manifold though.

After thinking about it I just went with a cast mani for cracklessness.
If I upgrade later on I will probably go absurdflow, but for now it's just going to be a low boost setup to work out all the possible kinks.
Even if it will hinder me somewhat up top, I think the begi cast with inconel 10mm hardware will be sufficient for me now.

Thanks for all the input guys.

Good choice. I know of one person who has tracked two of them, both of which have cracked. They were different s4 designs, the original and an updated version, not sure if it was the latest and greatest though. And I don't know that everyone is having this issue.

I remember a thread where stephanie herself admitted that their s4's might crack after a year or two or something like that. This was when I was going to get one too. After doing some extensive research on them I changed my mind and went with a log as well.

AF=/=S4
I think anyone planning to track race should be running absurd/artech manifold. The s4 just doesn't have the thickness I'd be comfortable with on the track.

look at question number two on the FAQ page on begi's site

http://www.bellengineering.net/faq.php?cID=1#3

that should help

what if you heat wrapped it? or used a turbo timer? ya know to keep it from cooling down too fast

would that help?

That's not going to do anything. We're talking about the manifold glowing on and off 5 times per lap.

If anything heat wrap will almost ALWAYS make the manifold crack/break faster

Our wimpy S$ manifold has been replaced with a weld el (sched 40 ) piece. Remote gate or integral. V-Clamps optional.

The iron guy with a remote gate is a good track part.

The MOJO is too new to know what it will do. Nicely made by some injuneer bumpkin in Austin. Remote gate only.

corky

Mine is now a bit over 3 years old. No cracks (knock on wood), and glows cool red on the dyno.
