Reliability Questions...

So I'm still debating on a kit vs DIY for my 03. And in the kit side of things I know that both FM and BEGI make wonderful products. For me it comes down to the ECU.

My goals:
150-180 RWHP
Self explanatory. Not looking to build a motor for a turbo. Yes I know that many of you have much more power on stock internals.

Relaibility
This car is a toy, so I don't have to drive it every day. That said I don't want to be working on it all the time, I want to enjoy it. I'd rather not have to figure out why it just stalled at an intersection, or hiccups when it comes off boost. My wife would also rather that when she gets up earlier than me and steals the car, she doesn't have to ask me why it won't start :vash:

What I do with the car
Commuting, spirited road driving, wine and cheesing (joking... kinda), hopefully some track days, doughnuts in my businesses parking lot.

Budget
4k? Not counting clutch and exhaust.

So keeping that in mind, with the special (or maybe not) requirements of my 03 and VVT. How do I control everything? Is the Voodoo Box enough? Or would I benefit even at lower power with a stand alone system? Should I have bought an MSM :eek3:

Sorry if I'm being long winded.

I don't know if a Voodoo box is enough, bust most people here go with a MegaSquirt standalone. Since your car is VVT you'll want to talk to Reverant. I believe he builds megasquirts for VVT cars.

Fm voodoo 2 kit. That's all you need for your goals.

Kinda what I was wondering. Any more pics of your green mica? Curious how mine would look with a hard top ;)

I think you'll be happy with either kit. However, ARTech will give you something that is probably more reliable than the cast iron manifold for the track. I would not go with anything other than schedule-40 pipe, external wastegate, and V-bands are more than worth the money for ease of maintenance when you consider that I can have my turbo out and back in, in about 15minutes. If you plan to buy it once, consider going overboard like me, I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'd get this to start.

I'm a metal fabricator by trade. If not going cast for the manifold will be beneficial in the long run, I'd probably like to just build it. I assume the engine flanges are available.

That said I missed this by 3 minutes. lol

USED: 1994-05 FM turbo manifold

DIY turbo manifold. It has been used (don't know the history). It has been painted in high temp paint. There is a small casting flaw (bottom left pic) that should not affect its functionality. The expansion gaps have closed some. We test fitted it on a head and it still easily slides on over the studs. Includes hardware and EGR plug.

No Warranty!
