Retarded coolant line bending question

So I'm stuck here. I have the manifold bolted up, the downpipe connected at the catalytic converter, and I can't really get any leverage to bend the fucking coolant pipe. Do I need to suck it up and take the manifold back off again so I can remove the pipe? Any recommended tool/method? I can't fit the downpipe with the coolant pipe where it is.

Its just 1 nut on the exhaust manifold. Just pull it out of the mixing manifold and bend it to your hearts content.

I tried that but I can't get the thing off with just that one nut off, I think the bracket is hitting the manifold.

Argh, I just don't want to have to tighten that damn middle nut again

RyanRaduechel 03-10-2013 11:45 PM

Slide a deep socket over it with an extension in the socket and bend it, that'll give you some leverage. Or get a piece of pipe to slide over it or something. Shouldn't be that hard. Just don't kink it.

SKMetalworks 03-10-2013 11:46 PM

Well you only have a couple options.

1. Get a 6pack of can o man and a straw, suck it up and pull the tube off.
2. Cut the tube to clear downpipe
3. Pull off manifold which is what your going to do.

The middle nut takes what 10 minutes to pull off? Do it once do it right.

1.6-liter post.

Savington 03-11-2013 02:05 AM

The other alternative to pulling the manifold is pulling the mixing manifold from the side of the water pump. You'll have to replace that gasket, though.

Lee04vr 03-11-2013 03:32 AM

Stick a 3/8" extension bar in the pipe for leverage and bend it where you need it.

Braineack 03-11-2013 11:30 AM

I can pull that pipe out without removing my turbo/manifold...

Weird, seems like the bracket is hung up on the manifold when I try and pull on it. The pipe itself can't move horizontally seeing as it's constrained by the bracket and it can't move much in and out given that it's still stuck in the mixing manifold.

I am seriously mechanically retarded, so thanks for putting up with this.

18psi 03-11-2013 11:47 AM

If you can't bend that thing by putting a pipe over it and bending whatever direction you want, you seriously need to hit the gym for a day or a year or 10.

Seriously: its easy peasy. Just don't get carried away and kink it

curly 03-11-2013 11:51 AM

Sounds like he's saying that tab isn't coming off the stud to be able to pull it out of the mixing manifold.

OP, try manning the fuck up, see if that helps.

Leafy 03-11-2013 11:53 AM

I know my tube got stuck really well... in the mixing manifold. Practically put my fist through the fire wall once it finally broke free.

you've been really feisty lately.. I love it.

Use one of these bad boys jammed up against the manifold, and it'll make that pipe seem like it's made out of aluminum foil:

Or just break out the crowbar and go Gordon Freeman on it.

I went to the gym on Friday for the first time since Aug. I did deadlifts, overhead presses, and pull-ups. My whole body is still sore, the weight was significantly less than I used to, and I feel feeble and impotent.

18psi 03-11-2013 12:59 PM

So just like very other day of your life?

:giggle:

Braineack 03-11-2013 01:02 PM

yes. a shameful life.

albumleaf 03-11-2013 01:20 PM

I already hit the gym bro, I'm just a lightweight. Freeweight military press 150lb 3x10, weigh 150lb, 5"11 :v

Braineack 03-11-2013 02:06 PM

should I buy an old mustang and feel good about myself when it overheats and I solve the issue by posing with my shirt off in front of a gas station?

hustler 03-11-2013 02:39 PM

1.6 owners can probably fit their wieners in that pipe.

oh and have plenty of lighting

MiataTurbo coolant line FAQ thread.

Clos561 03-12-2013 11:07 PM

the way i bent mine was a make shift mandrel. Plug one end with a battery and tape then filled it with wet sand, plugged other side with battery and tape then stepped on it to get the needed bend without kinks.

the time you took posting this you could have just unbolted your manifold and bent it. try sticking the pipe in your but hole then bending, worked for a few members here.

IcantDo55 03-12-2013 11:27 PM

Mapp gas, than make the red thing a curly-q

I used the extensive technique of being a man.

Its very tricky, but with enough practice and testosterone, you can pull it off.

I had the same problem. That bracket that slips over the bolt i had to grind down in order for it to clear the manifold. Or clear something i'm not really sure. But i do remember grinding that down, and all my problems were solved.

Sometimes it requires surgery.

I jerked mine off.

I decided to quit being a bitch and took the manifold off. My current plan is using my micropenis as leverage on the pipe, will post back with results.

18psi 03-13-2013 11:19 AM
