Shaft play Garret 2554
 

I have a winning noise from 3psi to 8psi it is the loudest at 6psi then gone by 10psi. I pulled the intake side and found a little shaft play.

Both in and out and side to side, up and down.
Very little play maybe a mm or less.

I think my 2554 is a ball bearing turbo.

brand new turbos have some play in the shaft (a little...not much). post up part number on the turbo and we can confirm or deny if its BB

It is not much play but there is some.

shaft play sounds pretty normal

would probably most helpful if you could get this "winning" sound on camera

I do not think it is coming from the turbo.
The waste gate and sucking sound both sound like they come from the left side front.
This is coming from middle/ passenger footwell

At which point did it start making the noise? After a specific part install or just started doing it out of the blue?

Out of the blue. It does sound like it coming from the passsenger foot well. it goes away after 9 psi.
It sounds more like turbo wine in the video than real life. And it sounds like it is coming from a totally different place than my waste gate noise on shift. I feel like if the turbo was making the noise it would sound like it was coming from the same place. the way the turbo sucking noise does.

Any way I road with a buddy in the car driving and it sounds like it is coming from the ecu. I was trying to see if it was something harmonic but its not the ecu. Could it be from my down pipe, I have already had to retighten the screw holding the 2 piece down pipe together and it is a little loose again could that be it a exhaust leak?

I'm still pretty puzzled by what it is... id just keep listening to WHERE and its coming from and keep looking in that area and maybe you'll get lucky and see something messed up.

Look for carbon splatter and stuff like that, sure sign of exhaust leak

You've reviewed any signal line running into the cabin?

Boost leak probably. Tighten all clamps at silicone couplers. Are all of your little vacuum lines zip tied on both ends?

My vac line running into cabin, that connected to ecu was leaking on my car....somehow I don't think it would be making a noise like that.

Do a boost leak test.... I used $5 worth of crap from home depot and a valve stem and tire pump do test mine out this week.....i had a few leaks, they were super obvious once I got it up to 15psi

OK i am willing to spend 5 bucks at home depot. How does one preform a boost leak test.

I disconected the only vacum hose I am aware of in the cabin the one to the gauge and o2 clamp and it still made the noise.

Are there any factory vac lines in cabin. I looked it up in service manual and did not see any.

Oh and I did remove and reinstall making sure they where tight the tubing around the intercooler. I guess I need to check the piping by inlet of engine and outlet of turbo.

Basically you need

PVC end cap
Drill
Metal valve stem (auto store... with all the air fittings etc)
Maybe a few clamps and/or coupler depending on how you install it

You can either cap off pre or post turbo... I did just post turbo, on the coupler that comes off the compressor outlet, but only because I got the wrong size for the inlet, and I didn't wanna run back to the store.

Drill a hole in the top of the PVC end cap.... attach valve stem. The metals ones should separate and allow you to attach the nut on the inside and attach and self seal wtih the rest of it.

Then just attach that new contraption into your IC piping, and pressurize. I had a bottle of soapy water handy, which when you spray on leaks, will bubble up like crazy and make it even easier to pinpoint.

I used an electric tire pump thing.... it was a little slow to pressurize to 15 psi, but it worked. And since it was leaking, I had to pressurize....check.....pressurize again, check etc a few times. If you have an actual air compressor and tank that would be way better with an air regulator, just get a fitting for that instead.

Try applying a little pressure to the hoses/vac lines and see if that makes them leak as well. sitting still my hotside piping was fine, but a tiny little finger pressure on the side of it, it would start to leak. once i tightened the clamps....no leaks. Had the same sort of thing on my vacuum hose leaking going into the ECU. If i tweaked it to the sides a little it would leak
