Sputtering

Alright I don't know how to start so I'll start from the begining. I took the car for an alignment and it couldn't be aligned because of a bent a-arm and screwed up subframe. So moron cut the eccentrics off and cut the subframe. Anyways it has been parked in the garage for about a month and a half waitning for parts. While I was fixing that I put in all new poly bushings, ball joints, motor mounts, etd crossover, silicone couplers, t-bolt clamps, and a new o2 sensor. I took it to get aligned yesterday and in the morning it ran fine and it also ran fine before I parked it. Picked it up from getting aligned and decided to try the new suspension and alignment. But when I got into it it sputtered and bogged down at 3k rpm. I kept trying to play but it would do the same thing every time. I thought maybe it was low on fuel and babied it to the station and got 9 gallons. Tried to start it and it would barily start, idles fine but go to give it gas and spit and sputter like it was flooded. So I finally got it home and can't figure it out. Acts like it is loading up with gas and as soon as you rev it past 3k bogs down. My setup is basic Greddy with an etd crossover, silicone couplers and t-bolt clamps, a bosch bov recirculated back, bosch platinum twin tips (about 2 months old, I did pull all for and the plug tips are pitch black), a bipes set to White Roadsters settings, and the vortech fpr. Any help is always greatly appreciated.

Meow do you have a cat, is the Fuel pump staying on? Is it a short nose crank? answer these questions and we can help you better.

The exhaust is stock, cat included, and has a long nose. As far as fuel pump, I don't know. How would I check it? I really do appreciate the help.

well while you are at it try to undo the cat bolts a little and see if this helps things. if it does then the cat is stopped up.

So, you don't think it has anything to do with anything that I did on the car this past month?

magnamx-5 07-10-2007 09:17 AM

nope unless you have a major leak then i doubt it

Braineack 07-10-2007 09:36 AM

check for vacuum leaks on the couplers.

and :dunno: something makes me want you to check the routing of FPR.

why he didn't touch that he is chocking somewhere and i surmise it is either the cat clogged up or the FP is not staying on correctly. both will do this both are easy to diagnose and fix. Fuel pump can be checked via guage or just listen for it running.

So you parked it at the alignment shop, they aligned it, you picked it up, and now it doesn't run right?

Sounds like they beat on your car. Go back to the shop and ask them why your car isn't running right.

Okay so last night I got home and for the world of me couldn't believe that the cat would clog just sitting there, so I did what Braineack said and tightened all the couplers. No offense to you magnamx-5 but in the original post I did say that I put on all new silicone couplers and crossover. Woo Hoo it's alive and kicking. I really appreciate all the help, you guys are great. Thanks again.
