Strange Whistle/Rattle from turbo?
I think its comming from the turbo
But it gets louder as the revs get higher. So I looked at the fins and it looks fine. And hasnt lost any boost or had any boost problems. Im not sure what it is, do the seals or bearings inside or something make these noises when their about to go out? (if there even are bearings in there ) |
You say you looked at the fins.
The parts of the fins that touch the housing are not usually visible without removing the compressor housing to look. Did you do this or did you just look in the inlet hole? The turbo has journal bearings. Essentially sleeves that fit over the shaft that are filled with constant oil flow that floats the shaft when operating. They would not be making a rattling noise, no ball bearings in there. |
Hm...Well, then doesnt soudn like its the turbo then (thank god)
Ill check all my belts in the morning, and see if anytihg is loose or rubbing. I hope I figure it out, These things worry me D: And thanks for the response! |
Turbos sounds like a scream or whine when touching the housing. Let me see if i can find the youtube video. braineack posted one once.
|
aite. ill try to search for it too
|
Im good
http://youtube.com/results?search_qu...ousing+rev2red Its definitely not that. That sounds like a supercharger. Lol. |
|
Yep. Same one. I guess my turbo is fine then :D Yaay

Funniest thing is the mechanic tried to tell us that no damage happened to the engine. Yeah, all that damage to the housing and turbo and nothing got ingested into a 21:1 compression engine and hurt anything. It doesn't have an air to air intercooler, but it might be a water to air type integrated into the intake manifold. I still don't trust it not to have sucked crap in. |
I couldnt find nothing loose. I checked everything I can see. And it still seems to be comming from the turbo itself
|
I just took the car for a test drive, and when i came back home, seemed to be idling high, i checked and the pvc was in half again....so i popped it back on, and now the car is sputtering pretty bad and that noise is louder! If I had money i would go buy those plugs, but dont right now.and i still dont know what that noise is. I wish i had a video camera to record it D:
|
Spark plugs are less than $2 a piece. Did a piece of your PVC valve fall into the valve cover and is now rubbing against a cam?
|
Yep, and right now I Dont have a buck to my name. But I have a couple Bosch plugs laying around somewhere for the time being.
And as far as the pvc goes, I dont think so, the noise seems to be comming from the front accessories, like the PS or AC |
You can tighten your belts for free then I suppse.
When you replace your PVC get the metal one from the dealer instead of the autozone plastic junk that falls apart often. |
How about temporarily removing the ac / ps belt and see if that eliminates the noise?
EDIT - It could possibly be the a/c clutch. |
Will do.
Even thoug it doesnt sound like a belt squeel. but who knows, could fix it? And yea, im gonna end up going to the dealer D; Thanks Mayn |

Sorry in advance...
I've read a lot of your posts and I'm going to accept my heritage and embrace the time honored Irish tradition of getting angry for no good reason: Do us all a favor and torch your car because if I read anymore about your incompetence and lack of basic trouble shooting skills I'm going to drink a bucket of Clorox. |

Belt squeal is pretty easy to identify, especially since you can tug on the throttle cable when your hood is up to see where a noise is coming from. Maybe your turbo ingested something and it's stuck behind the impeller? OUTSIDE chance there.
