why would you need it?

The nut, the fact that a pin goes through it, and a cotter pin should all hold it in place.

In Newbsauce's case, we JB Welded it since his threads were worn down and sometimes the arm would pull apart.

Just a thought that most mention to have the wastegate tighten up and secured, such that viberation would not loosen up and alter its setting.

it's not going to be able to turn once it's on the swingarm.
