Third 323 Gtx Turbo Pvc valve broken, Whats up with that?
My Pvc valve just borke again...
My third 323 gtx turbo one now.. Could my crankcase be pressurized from bad rings? Or.....Am I just unlucky. Has this happened to anyone else with a fram pvc valve? |
I bought one 323 Gtx pcv valve from Oreillys only to find that the OEM one sealed much better than it. Took it back today and managed to get hit in the parking lot.
Go buy one from Mazda. (or people will back into you) Aftermarket Pcv valves are notorious for being crap. |
how is it broke?
dont buy cheapo parts from advanced auto, buy the factory part. |
Ok will do tommorrow.
Well, its like, a two piece. It snaps together. I just found that out And it keeps, Uh.. Unsnapping? Lol. |
:dunno: It hates you
Lol.
Are the ones from the dealership Onepeice? |
d'oh, I got my 323gtx PCV from one of those online parts superstores..haven't put it on yet.
Oh well, guess I will see if the stealership has one. Something told me that the online part was generic anyway, probably the same PCV they would have sold me for a miata. |
doesnt tommy at finishline / rosenthal sell these for reasonable money?
No pcv valve ftw :p. Simplifies things.
There are some that say that the GTX part number is the same but the part is not always the same. Some people feel that sometimes you get a GTX part other times you get a Miata/Protege Pcv
www.mazdastuff.com try them |
FM sells it for a nomial fee: http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?...umber=04-96005
what year of 323 is this pcv valve from?
85 to 89 323 GTX. The one with the DOHC B6T engine.
Quick Question.
I called my friend to buy me a pvc valve becuase I have no money. And he said they ran out of the gtx ones so he just got a regular miata one. Wow, this one doesnt look like its ognna break like the other one. Will i be fine with this one for now? |
The on you want has a metal base. As in no shitty two piece composition.
Oh yea, For sure. Im gonna get the 323 turbo one from th edearl, but I mean, will the miata replacemnt one work for now?Or will i get blow by or something
it'll work fine for now, you'll just once again run the risk of destroying it. but then again the reason you replace it, just like a 1.6 diff, is because there is a risk of it being damaged, not because its guaranteed.
Ok. For sure then. I thought I was gonna get blow by or something with it. But ill be replacing it soon :D

You should take it back anyways because you got it from autozone and not the dealer. Buy one from the dealer.
its an oem part... does it matter?
its a pcv1264 pc287
The plastic ones from autozone frequently leak and fall apart. The one from the dealer is of much better quality and they usually don't leak though some people have had multiple 323 pcv's from the dealer that did leak so it's a toss up. PCV valves are a headache though, it's a real PITA finding one that doesn't leak. Ideally I would like to run no PCV at all.
Short story, the one you bought at advanced is a cheap plastic piece of junk, don't expect it to hold boost. |
ok, i had no idea i should change it until i was reading up on some shizz and i saw that i should upgrade to the 323gtx.... what do you think about the FM upgraded one for turbo apps?

so i should go get my 4 bucks back? and go to a mazda dealership and get an 85-89 323gtx pcv? or should i get the one from fm?
Yes get an oem unit. The pcv valves from autozone etc will most likely leak boost into your valve cover.
aiight, thanx for the info guys
any advantage to running it on an NA set-up? i'm going turbo soon, so i should i just pick it up to have for later use? or can i install it now?
Won't hurt to install it now. The only benefit to this valve is it was designed to hold boost better than the stock miata valve. Even if it wasn't designed to hold boost better, it usually does.

Does the factory 1.8 PCV valve hold any boost at all? Anyone ever test this?
I need to hurry up and VTA my VC to a catchcan. |
I WAS using a metal aftermarket (supra) and in less than 2k miles it failed. Found an old valve from a B engine in the garage. Tested good to ~40psi. It's been said over and over, buy the OE Mazda pcv valve.
This is why my new car isn't going to have a pcv setup. For once I'm going to borrow advice from Honda tuners and simply run major ventilation to the crankcase.
My only concern is cutting down the frequency at which water vapor is removed from the engine. It'd be different on the track where the car is in boost most of the time, blowing out vapor. But on the street, vacuum plays a major part in removing the vapor. I think it's important to have both- surely can't hurt, and with the addition of for-boost modified vent system, it'll only extend the life of the pcv.

How do you know if your PCV spontaneously broke? What are the symptoms?
I bought a 323GTX PCV from my dealer for 23 bucks, I told him the part number and said the model + year of the car. I dont think it has a metal end though. I just explicitly said I need this part number exactly and not a "compatible" part. |

my last engine has very very very sensitive rings. I couldn't even run a catch can because the pressure drop of the can itself was enough to remove any ventilation through it. when my cheap $1 pvcs would fail i'd notice more oil smell in boost and fun trails out the exhaust :) |
Depends on the engine- some symptoms include: oil leaks, around the filler neck, from the cam cover gasket, dip stick popping up. You can test it with an air compressor- just use the blower attachment with the regulator set to the desired psi and try to blow through it.
what exactly happens when a PCV goes?

I just asked. |
you asked for the symptoms. not the end result
They're pretty much the same thing. It's bad because you're boosting the wrong side of the piston. Too much of it causes leaks and in some cases seals to dislodge.
Just looked at my valve. plastic body, metal innards.
Part number E301-13-890A. Its body has the markings "E301A 0D21" I still dont understand how they can break, all it is is a plunger that gets forced down when pressure is applied to one end. Its so simple what could break. |
I went to the dealer and they said that the shop down the road is my best bet, they sell AC Delco parts and they are better then the oem parts... plastc outside metal innards... any feedback on that opinion?
^ I got mine from the dealer using a part number I got here referencing the old 323GTX, I am curious to know if the valve people are getting has a shiny metal body.
^ exactly what I have sitting on my desk.
damn, and i thought i had a decent one... how do i get images up without putting them on a website?
just host them on photobucket then copy the img tags that they offer and paste them here
