Tony downpipe and fm/bowser heat shield?

anybody have the 2 of them working together? I did my tony dp today and can't really see being able to use this heatshield without too much modification because this particular dp i have has the o2 bung kind of sticking out the top and it's also very close to the brake proportioning valve.

On a sidenote, it was a good day today, got the tony dp on without having to remove my manifold and turbo! also replaced my test pipe with a resonator. Even with the bigger dp the car is SO much quieter, i'm very pleased with this. Also the car runs a lot happier. at 10psi and running so rich that it's shooting black smoke, it's dead even with my friends 06 CLK 350.
the test pipe flange does rattle a little against the ppf but nothing a little grinding can't fix. For some reason with this downpipe the rest of the exhaust had to be taken off it's hangers and rotated for all the flanges to match up and now where i had my buddy weld on my wideband bung before the cat it's at an angle now that i don't think i can get the sensor in.

Sweet. We'll have to do some runs soon to see who's faster:)

I have both of them running together but i just had to trim a square about 2 inches by 2 inches where it comes to a point in the back. it was just a lot of guess and check but you can make it fit fine.

Also, as you know I'm using a bowser heatshield with my kit. I just repositioned the mounting bracket by drilling new holes and riveting it back into place. This may be an option for you if it's too close to the brake proportioning valve.

i gotta stare at it for a while, i'm sure i'll figure out something, either that or just make a new one and sell the bowser

Just trim the back a bit so it slides over the DP. Pretty easy mod.

Only mod I had to make was to trim it for the o2 sensor. Like said above, was like 2 sq in.

Do you guys have any pictures? I'm going to modify mine tonight and would like to see if the fit issues you guys have had are the same as mine.

not sure if you can really see it in the photo. but heres what mines looks like i had to trim a bit around the brake master too.

Ok, looks like fit will be about the same as mine, I don't have to worry about the O2 bung though.

Thanks for the pictures! Did you put all the rivets in the heatshield yourself? Mine is spot welded.

shinobix 04-23-2007 08:40 PM

yea, the spot welding on mine was re-welded twice. i got tired of it breaking from vibration.

I had to run rivets on mine as well. The spot welds let loose and the shield ended up dangling from the turbo. I have a RM 2.5" DP and I had to dremel quite a bit to get a fit I liked.
