ok, so today i beat on my car a bit
upon bringing it back to my house,
i noticed i had a light puff of smoke coming from
the motor bay. one of the heater core hoses was leaking coolant,
very very gently though.

after taking off my heat shield, and heat wrap,
i found out the downpipe had made a hole in the wrap
and the heater core hose,(one closest to driver side) had begun to bubble
this had caused a small pin sized hole to form
causing my light smoking

now

i ask all of you, where can i get a new hose, should i fab up my own?
i have tons of spare hose from my old civic which happens to have similar bends

also, i read the sticky, one big faq posted by braineak

but i could not find the heat wrap he was talking about

what should i use to wrap my stuff,

You can buy self adhesive aluminum sided heat tape at lowes or any hardware store like that. It's usually used for insulating stove pipes and things like that. I put it on the hose lengthwise and wire tied it so it can't move. You should also wire the hoses out of the way to keep them off the downpipe so you don't have that problem.
You can make your own lines, long as they're the right size hose. It's just nice to have the preshaped hoses.

I couldnt make generic hoses bend and not crimp. I went and got the Mazda ones. A little pricey but its a job I dont expect to do again

It's available in several different diameters, and I can't remember which one I used on the heater hoses. It was necessary to use one somewhat larger than the true diameter of the hose to allow for the tight bends.

As for the hoses themselves: your local dealer, Rosenthal Mazda, FM, Moss, pretty much anybody who is close to you and has 'em in stock. But defiantly get the factory hoses (or equivalent). You cannot bend generic straight hose to fit in that tight spot.

Almost exactly 1 inch.

But you'll want a larger sleeve to allow for the bends. Figure 1.25" or 1.5", depending on how stiff it is.

Yeap. I had to use a 4' length of hose to make the bends so it wouldn't kink on me. Also I would order the Mazda hoses if you can, cause I ordered mine from O'Reily's and had to wait for them to order them, it was like 80 bucks, and then one of the hoses is just wrong, and it was a heater hose too. That's 80 for all the hoses, but only one of the 1/4" ones. Go with mazda hoses.

I used asbestos spark plug boots worked just fine. With them i could use a blowtorch on one side and have my hand on the other with no harm or heat comming through.

I'm using a cut up starter blanket from the domestic ricer section of the local auto parts store. Seems to be working fine.

magnamx-5/Arkmage - i just got a new hose, wrapped it in the asbestos spark plug boots, then put a kinda of shield made from spare aluminum i had, then my ricer starter wrap like arkmage said, then my greddy shield, just took it for a good long drive, everything looks good,

ill post up some pics tomorrow,

ps, the hose wrapped looks like a caterpillar lol
