turbo inquirie

i have the ihi turbo from the mazdaspeed swap still on the car

what do you guys think about the gt30 setups?
i'm getting bored with the small turbo already lol

:jerkit:

SKMetalworks 12-03-2009 02:53 PM

There nice. What are your specific goals.

mazdaspeedmx5 12-03-2009 02:58 PM

to be completely sideways around the track lol jk

got an open diff in the back prolly need to get a better diff before i go bigger turbo but i want a quick spool, good high end

ps how do you change your effin avatar photo by your name lol

TrickerZ 12-03-2009 03:03 PM

My car lost traction so easily until I got my torsen. It's night and day difference and it feels predictable instead of sketchy around corners. I would get that first.

mazdaspeedmx5 12-03-2009 03:06 PM

suspension is tight homie, got 5 way adjustables, springs, anti sways front and rear, new bushings in entire car, and race compound tires. car has at least 220 at the crank still loses traction. have a feeling when i upgrade turbo i will be having even more fun lol. i need strut tower bars tho....

I'm really not sure where to start with this post.

I do like your avatar though.

mazdaspeedmx5 12-03-2009 04:22 PM

Well good for you!

My list is short...but all the mods I did are pretty well thought out and executed.

1. Crank HP guesstimates...oookkk

Go to a dyno, use whp.

2. Define 5 way adjustables...and the effectiveness of those five parameters as they effect your driving style.

3. Turbo cars work much better with NO rear sway.

4. Miatas have shocks, not struts...and the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of STBs has been argued to death.

Anyhow, welcome to the forum. I'm interested in your goals, and how you intend to change your current setup to meet them.

Start posting like you graduated from high school and use search.

Number 3 is a matter of opinion, driving style, and personal preference. Sorry to call you out but Miatas do indeed have struts. Shocks are separated from the springs while struts have springs around them.

mgeoffriau 12-03-2009 05:01 PM

That's not what differentiates a strut and shock. Struts are structural members of the suspension, shocks are not.

yep. Struts locate wheels, shocks don't. Easy test: if you unbolt a shock, the car will still roll forward and back. If you unbolt a strut, the tires go all sorts of which way and you have an immobile car.

MacPherson STRUT. Miata SHOCK.

To the OP, you might consider doing some more reading lest the thugs come out of hiding.

Lots of dumbfuck queers in here that need to do the world a favor and kill themselves.

I think you mean quires.

gospeed81 i'm sorry i'm a newb but yes you're correct they are shocks. and a well thought out plan is a very good idea. i haven't put the stb on the car yet. the car is so well gripped to the ground the only thing left is to upgrade the rubber. i look forward to dialing them in on the track, but they are fairly well adjusted just to give me a little less fun sliding with my oversteer... my buddy tuned the hydra on the street so all we have is estimates, unless i goto FM and lay it out. i'm really curious to see what the car will hit with e85. not really numbers but how it reacts on the track. to be honest the car is pretty scary with the mazdaspeed swap and the bolt ons as it sits right now. i'll see how it goes.

appreciate your comments and feedback. and yes i'm a newbie to miatas i won't argue with that. i'm learning as i go so constructive criticism is always appreciated. thanks

Well excuse me then, after doing a quick Google I guess I'm wrong. Was going off what a old Ford Master Tech explained to me once upon a time.

NastyNate 12-03-2009 08:32 PM

The mazdaspeed trubo is awful. Ask me how I know. And I actually prefer mr car with the rear sway bar ala FM.

gospeed81 12-03-2009 08:37 PM

Wasn't trying to come down on anyone here...and the receptive learning attitude is strong in this thread...regardless of how hustler feels about it.

The rear sway bar is a preference thing. I've pulled and replaced mine atleast 3 times...and tend to take it off everytime I get a bump in power just so I can stay planted coming out of corners again.

The one guy with a respectable MSM setup built around the original turbo is selling it right now...so I guess he got tired of it and wanted more. My turbo is similar...and I don't recommend building around it. Mine will actually has a higher mass flow rate than the MSM stocker, and I can feel it running out of breath at 12psi on the big end.

mazdaspeedmx5 12-03-2009 08:55 PM

yea i haven't went above 10psi. turbo is small but for a stockie seems to get fairly good spool. heard one of the 30r models spools faster and has a much better capability with power. but i don't know if i can fork out the dough...

You'd be in serious need of Charmin in one of the many cars that make double the whp and triple the wtq on this forum. MSM's are pathetically slow, but this perception is a good thing. When you get tired of the MSM kit, you can probably call "turbo tim" and get an MSM replacement manifold made with a gt2560 or gt2860rs and double/triple the output.
