turbo vs summer

I drove my car up a twenty mile grade yesterday and climbed 2K feet all at freeway speeds in 100* heat. I noticed that my temp gauge moved and if I coasted it seemed to get worse. It never went to the red but moved to the right of the middle.

It pissed me off and I dont know what to do? :vash: Water wetter?

magnamx-5 07-10-2007 07:38 AM

yeah and maybe a bigger Radiator. definatley try more water and water weter in the mix does it freeze in your part of Cali if not try 75-80% water with the rest as water wetter and anti freeze.

get a better mix. reinstall the undertray if it was removed.

turn the heater on next time it starts to spike & keep the car moving for airflow.

Big aluminum radiator, 70/30 water to antifreeze and a shot of water-wetter (change yearly) and a 180 degree thermostat. Even with no undertray I can climb Palomar under boost or go ripping up the Imperial Mountains on I-8 without overheating the coolant.

I was super surprsed how well the heater trick works when it gets hot...the only bad part is the miatas heater works to damn well. It gets so friggen hot!!!.

I've always driven stock Toyotas as daily drivers since 2000, the needle pegs a certain point and never goes above it under any circumstances. Watching a temp needle move around under different driving conditions on a hot day in other cars gives me anxiety.

It does not "freeze" here but we do get winshied ice a few times a year.

I already have the splash shield installed.

I have a large capacity copper radiator.

magnamx-5 07-10-2007 12:37 PM

then try the watered down mix and some adative.

royal purple's additive is tits! my on my RX7 I used 70/30 mix, koyo, and royal purple additive= good times....180's-190's under big boost in ky heat and humidity

And as soon as my miata gets runnin I'm running the same set up.. I'll let ya know how it works

Change the thermostat and give your coolant system a good flush.

Any Thermostat or the 180* one? I may have a new Thermostat. I will have to check. (I just had the timing belt done)

92yella 07-10-2007 05:50 PM

Are there any disadvantages to the 180* thermostat?

davor 07-10-2007 08:31 PM

sorry but what is "Water wetter", tnx

Try a bigger radiator. I've got an FMIC blocking nearly all the airflow to mine, and my car just BARELY got warm (needle moved to 1pm vs. straight up and down) after 20 minute sessions in 108-degree heat this weekend at Buttonwillow. I've got a CSF 57mm radiator in my car.

180* or 190*,I use a 190* with no problems.

A magical coolant addative manufactured by Redline which purports to increase the thermal conductivity of water. http://www.redlineoil.com/products_c...ubCategoryID=4

A similar product manufactured by Royal Purple: http://www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/prpice.html

or similar to dish soap :gay: break the surface tension or the water so the boiling point and pressure can be increased

I live in Denver and my GF lives in Vail. I went up there over the 4th of July and my temps never went past halfway. I am running closer to 70/30 water to anitfreeze, water wetter, and have dual fans running on an aluminum performance radiator. I am running 14 psi of boost and my IC is in front of about half of my radiator (custom IC that is long and skinny). The koyo aluminum radiators like this one seem to work well: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KOYO-...QQcmdZViewItem

Dual fans seem to have helped me alot if you have not already done that you may consider it.
