Ok, I was planning on only buying new parts for my turbo setup on my miata, however a deal has arisen thats hard to pass. A local guy has offered me a greddy kit + starion intercooler and pipes for 800. My question is this:

Aside from the OBVIOUS parts...
Manifold
D/P
FPR
I/C + Pipes
Turbo
Random Greddy pipes
Filter

Are there any parts critical that I cannot pick up at a general hardware store? Hoses, bolts..etc.? I am looking for a basic list of parts I should be scouting for when I pick up the kit.

Without knowning what you are missing it's hard to say. However, most likely the things you may need you can source locally. I'm local so just ask if you need anything. I'm not promising I'll give it up, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

You'll want to make sure you have the feed and return lines for the turbo.

Right I mean I have the parts list that came with the original instructions (from this site) however, I just wondered which were more critical then others. Thanks.. I didnt even think about the return lines.

If you're missing the nuts and bolts you can source them at Ace Harware or something similar. Things like the oil lines will be harder.

You might need the fuel lines for the FMU if they weren't provided; use 5/16" you can get that anywhere.

If you plan on tapping the pan, then you'll need the fitting. You may have to mod the return dump flange. Or You can get a kit from jgstools.com. I have the dill bit and tap for the 1/2" NPT fitting.

If you need fuel line, though, make sure it's rated for upwards of 100psi. I went to West Marine and got 250psi-rated fuel line (very thick-walled) for pennies on the dollar.

Excellent advice.. thanks guys. Im assuming the "break-in" period no longer applies once I have made sure the oil has run through the lines into the turbo?

A lot of it depends on what you intend to do with the kit. Since you're installing an I/C, I can't imagine that 5 PSI will satisfy you for long. ;) Of the parts that came with my Greddy kit, the only ones that I am actually using are the turbo itself and the manifold that it sits on.

Tapping a hole in the oil pan is not difficult (though scary) and provides a much cleaner solution to routing the the return line. I bought an aluminum flange off eBay which provides a 3/8" NPT threaded return fitting, so I'm running that with braided -8AN hose to the pan, as opposed to using the rather badly thought-out return system from the stock kit. The ones listed as being for GT25 turbos fit. Here's the one I used: http://tinyurl.com/ek3vp

The stock oil feed line is a bit more useful, but not irreplaceable. For the sake of clean looks I re-did that too with -4AN.

Ditto the downpipe- TurboTony (a member of this list) makes beautiful 2.5" downpipes for just a bit over $200.

The bolts you should replace anyway. You can find quality class 10.9 bolts (equivilant to grade 8) at Ace Hardware, Pep Boys, etc. Same with the hose clamps, etc.

So really, I think your list is pretty complete.

I got the whole kit in a box.. the pipes and clamps, manifold, intercooler and turbo look good. The only thing that worries me is the lack of the stupid greddy filter. I have a K&N so i'm assuming I could prolly pick up a filter adapter somewhere and just use that?

yes, it's a good idea to replace that filter anyways. Pepboys and Autozone usually have an adapter that will work. K&N filter RU-5111 fits really good with the GReddy pipes. I've sold them to a few members here.

One part that nobody's listed which is pretty hard to get is the small adapter that screws into the engine block to convert the BPT to NPT threaded fitting for the oil feed line.

Or you could just buy a metric-to-AN adapter for the block, three feet of -3 or -4 AN line and a metric-to-AN adapter for the tubo oil inlet. That way, you'd have much more common parts that can be found easily, no banjo bolts, no NPT adapters, etc.

Banjo fittings and bolts are very common. A lot more common than the two metric fittings you neet for the block and turbo. At least that was my experience in trying to find the proper fitting when I broke the block adapter. And you can easily make a banjo bolt in a pinch.

I was basically given a box of bolts and clamps with no labeling what so ever... I have the parts list of all the nuts/bolts that ship w/ the greddy kit (in the instructions) .. I'm better off just going and buying all new high grade hardware?

Well, locally, I can find metric-to-AN fittings all day long at hydraulic supply store, and sites like SummitRacing, Jegs, ATP Turbo, etc. are teeming with them...you can get them in aluminum, steel, etc. in a multitude of sizes and bends. I had orderd all my oil feed fittings from Summit, as I had a bunch of other things to buy from there as well.
