Voodoo 2 Track prep questions
 
I have been wanting to add more power to my Miata for some time now but the added cost of making a turbo track ready is making my head spin :laugh:

I keep thinking I will need a oil cooler, coolant reroute and a better fan/rad setup. Also lets not forget some gauges to keep a eye on things. So here is the question if I was to get a voodoo 2 kit and have FM use Inconel studs for the turbo/manifold would I really need to upgrade everything else for 160-170hp turbo setup when I hit the track for HPDE. This car is more used for auto x but I do enjoy the track and have plans to go back next year. Thanks guys

You need better em than the doodoo box, the re-route, inconel studs, possibly a better rad/oil cooler, lots of shrouding and a better than stock clutch.
That's to start off. If you want to do it right of course.

O yeah I forgot the clutch lol. I would get the FM happy meal so thats 600. I dont think I will ever have a turbo miata. I ended up buying the supercharger for 949racing but they cancelled my order with good reason of course and now I dont know what to do :(

Start with getting a megasquirt running. There will be some more good track setup options soon, depending on what happens with jackson racing and the rotrex, but most of the options you have for real track ready kit will require a ms.

I want to go hydra or adaptronic. I know a tuner close to me that tunes my friends CSP car with a hydra so... also FM has awesome support for it.

haha its fine. I been reading about adding F.I to a miata well before I owned one. I know for street driving and auto x my car would be fine but I want to be able to hit up limerock or pocono without having to worry about the car failing

Don't worry about it man. Start off with a basic begi or fm kit and add to it as necessary. If it were a street car you could get away with much less parts needed, but on a track car many things will fail much quicker than normal.

Save up til you have the minimum required items or you'll probably break stuff you're not yet ready to replace.

both work great, but ms will accomplish just about the same for less money and there's tons of support for it here.

though if you want to have a company rep on standby ready to attend to your every tuning need you'll probably be better off with the two you listed. (though that's not always the case lol)

From talking to Y8s about engine management a lot, he likes the MS3x the most. He has ran TEC-II, Hydra, Adaptronic, MS3x all on his 01.

02semiata have you tracked your car before? If so have any clue to how fast you were compared to the local SM racers? A lot of the breaking comes from being faster then Spec Miatas.

A lot of the big things like coolant reroute and oil cooler is not needed if you are still learning. If it is your first time out with an FM kit, chances are nothing will break. After you start getting faster is when problems start to happen.

I have done around 8 track days. Not sure on times but I can tell you I dont pussyfoot around. I go full out, I tend to forget that if I crash I have no ride home lol. I do alot of auto x I run with 3 clubs so I do over 15 events a season easy and most events are at least 8 runs. So i am pretty good behind the wheel.

GET MS3, get an oil cooler and go from there. I love my car, don't get me wrong, but if I were in the same sittuation that I am now making less cash, I'd probably have a VVT motor on NA crush-mode. It's so much cheaper to stay under 200whp. You have to shift your perspective from modding a car to building something totally different.

I was going to get a MS from the group buy in the F/S section here but I started to read they had problems getting the VVT box to work. Have you VVT guys been able to run/tune the VVT with MS.

I was already tossing the idea of staying NA and started to price that out. I just dont know if I want to drop like 2.5-3k for 40hp haha. I LOVE my miata but I really want the extra power for auto x. I am always in the top 5 and so close to FTD(fastest time of the day) and thats bone stock(power wise). I had everything planned out for next year and the damn rotrex deal fell trough :vash:

Just swap in a VVT engine, that's not $3k. It takes a ton of money and an incredible attention to detail for me to campaign my turbo car around the state. I don't work on it anymore and it doesn't break, but it took a lot of cash to get there. I will concede that once you have a car like mine you will be really, really spoiled, it's the most fun I've had in my life.

I have a VVT engine already. I have a 02. The price came from header midpipe/catback a clutch and ecu. The ecu is the biggest hit. I guess if I went with a MS3x I would save a ton of cash. I am reading about it now.
