--hijacked stripes picture--- Okay follow the radiator hose from the radiator towards the eninge. Stop when you get to the silver thing. What is that senson on top? Is it the temp sensor for the fans? I broke mine somehow (no leak or anything) but I noticed when I was sitting in front of the shell station at idle my car was getting hot and the fans were not kicking on. Is there a way to make the fans stay on all the time??? When I am driving the car cooled down relatively quickly so thats why i think its a fan problem. Thanks guys, I owe a lot of newbish answered questions to yall. :bigtu: |
Temp sensor. I actually broke mine the other day too.
20$ @ NAPA. Goodluck. |
is that why my fans were not working? I kind of want the fans to run whenever the car is on because I dont want that overheating thing again (it wasnt overheating but the temp guage was almost all the way on the Hot side)

Pull the wire off and ground it and your fan will stay on.

a little off topic but is there any way to rig up and control the fans via a switch in the cabin?
cause out of the whole time i've owned this car they've kick on like twice, not saying thats a bad thing since im not overheating, but i'd like to control them. |
That's actually a thermoswitch, so yes it turns the fans on when the coolant hits 207F. Splice in a regular switch and you can control it yourself instead of temps controlling it. There are also variable thermoswitches (not oem) available so you can lower the temp if you want.

so do I just cut the wire, leave the sensor there, and find aplace to ground the wire to? That will make them stay on all the time?
|
Yes, but I wouldn't leave it that way. Before the Summer is out, you will want to get a new sensor and replace and rewire. Having the fans on in cold weather will cause the engine to be too cool and the ECU will make it run richer even in Nashville.

thanks for the help :)
