What do you want or expect in a baseline turbocharging kit

I am posing this question to people who have just recently added a turbocharger and might have real good insight as to what they ordered and what they realized that they are missing, or to individuals who haven't yet turbocharged their car yet, but understand the bare minimum of items that would satisfy their basic requirements for boosting.

This is not for a Big Budget Build, but rather a kit for novices.
I already have an idea of what i would like to provide.. but would very much like to hear about ideas, complaints and concerns from those who are out there...

thank you.

Wait, I'm confused... are you trying to build a turbo kit to sell to the general public?

My requirements are a little different because I live in CA. If I could get something that was legal where I live, I'd want something like...

BEGi Shanghai S1 kit with IC and CARB EO for 00-05
Chinese turbo version of FMII with IC and CARB EO for 00-05

Either for under $2500. I'd drop that in a heartbeat.

Basically, a honest to god complete kit (see BEGi & FM) with a Garrett pattern T25/28 chineese turbo (so I can get cheap used Garrett turbos as an upgrade) an intercooler, some sort of band-aid fuel solution that will make it run but can be easily removed for a stand alone (like MS2/3) and support like BEGi and FM are known for.

...and a marthafocking CARB EO number. Did I mention a CARB EO number?

Stop me if I'm wrong here, but don't you have a reputation of being effectively retarded and generally annoying on other forums?

Serious question.

EO2K 04-09-2012 04:07 PM

Did I just feed a troll?

Edit:
Nevermind, i read through some posts and he seems to not be retarded, lol. Basically, we want what ARTech is doing and I presume what TSE will do. Schedule-40 pipe, v-banding, possibly a crane, huge exhaust from the turbo to the bumper, inconel hardware with inconel safety-wire, and most importantly a "no questions asked, lifetime warranty".

In for pics of RAT ROD miata.

rohmer 04-09-2012 04:33 PM

if by retarded you are referring to my adopting a remote mount turbo platform for the na/nb miata.....

and if by annoying you are referring to me defending such a concept....

as for CARB legal in California... I haven't got the deep pockets necessary to fund that. However, reading what restrictions the state of California has posed on what can and cannot be modified to have CARB approval... a remote mount turbo, as much as some might hate it, would definitely be a pathway for CARB approval. Minimal intrusion into the normal exhaust layout, zero change to all Emissions Control Equipment. And only bandaids necessary for mild boost.

then call me retarded and annoying...

by the way hustler... amidst your complaining... i think you dropped your binkie.

no. seriously. i think you did.

eo2k... you didn't feed a troll. you fed someone who wants to bring affordable boost to the table. nothing else.

18psi 04-09-2012 04:37 PM

in on troll thread

Vashthestampede 04-09-2012 04:38 PM

Thats right, the remote mount turbo dude.

:drama:

Remote mount on a Miata is retarded, but whatever. You should relax a little bit. I didn't call you a retard, I asked if you were retarded. There is a big difference. Now, if you come up with another rear-mount turbo, I'll probably call it "retarded" but that's not the end of the world or anything, the world will still turn, and you can keep mounting the rear of Miata owners.

OP sounds a little bit defensive. Subbed for dry ---- rape.

I'll quietly watch for a while, there may be a poll on this topic in the near future. This is what we call the "democratic side" of MiataTurbo, the part where we collectively decide if a person is retarded or tolerable.

Stein 04-09-2012 05:12 PM

I'll play.

Here is the "cheap down and dirty kit"

Weld El Manifold for T25
Downpipe
All oil and water fittings and lines needed (This is a bitch for DIY'ers. Always missing something.) They need to tell you what turbo/churbo they are running in advance.

That's it. They buy either a churbo of their choice or SR20 T25. That way they can shop used or buy new. They buy their own DIYPNP. They buy their own clutch.

Have an add-on cost for intercooler, pipes and couplers package needed for Miata specific kit.

Have an add-on cost for Churbo if they don't want to source one. Do NOT get into the game of selling kits with used SR20 T25's.

Anything beyond that is a special and quoted accordingly, or you can make your life easy and say "that's it, pick any color you want, as long as it's black".

curly 04-09-2012 05:12 PM

Problem is any manifold/dp we'd want to see in a kit is going to be from FM, BEGI, Artech, TSE, Absurdflow...and that's about it. A few home brew setups are good, but I don't know any of them that could mass produce, even on a small scale. So the above are your options, unless I'm missing someone, and they're all otherwise occupied.

remember this guy: https://www.miataturbo.net/members/kurt-rohmer-2388/

one could easily interpret the site rules in such a way that this new account could be immediately terminated.

if banning someone for an idea is the way this place still runs....
then it seems i have misjudged the "new Miataturbo"...
close this.

Quit being a crybaby and we'll let you stay. High standards and ethical purity are the crux of this place. Embrace it, and be a man for the first time in your life. If you have low test, fake it until your balls drop. Have you ever tried vagina?

jacob300zx 04-09-2012 07:06 PM

A rear mount would probably not be able to compete with any well put together kit. Do you have dyno, spool data, spark table map, or iat readings? Stop being a douche and show us what your running. If you want to gauge interest on a hypothetical rear mount kit that you have been engineering in your head for 5 years than you should be banned again.

skidude 04-18-2012 01:12 PM

I saw one successful-looking rear mount turbo on a miata once. http://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-ind...-pictures.html Beyond that, it just seems stupid.

EO2K 04-18-2012 01:13 PM
