whats wrong with this picture?

Hello, these are some pics of my compressor inlet and outlet tubes that have been fitted with an outlet/inlet for a bypass valve. Something doesn't seem to be right though? Any takers?

Also, the bracket for mounting the maf doesn't seem to line up either, what am I doing wrong here?

Problems I see:

Maf
Power steering
No coolant reroute
Spark plug wires
No intercooler

;)

Aside from that, you're definitely gonna need a blowoff valve and something to connect it back to the intake. I take it you're missing a few pieces? Should be able to rig something up pretty easily I would think.

flounder 06-24-2010 10:34 PM

haha.

I have the bypass valve, but none of the tubing from the kit matches up with it and the inlet/outlets.

I do have an IC on the way, but I kinda wanted to just start with the basic kit and build from there. I'll only be running like 5-6psi to start.

And I like my power steering just fine:bigtu:

It appears that Begi might have forgotten to cut the first 90 degree bend that attaches to the outlet of the turbo, cold side. It causes the whole intake line to be too high and hit the hood when you have them all installed. I ran into the same problem last summer when i installed my shangai. You have to trim a couple of inches from both sides of the bend

I forgot how much you have to trim, call begi.

BEGi never includes the hose that goes there, I guess since they dont sell many non-intercooled kits with a BOV.
Its kind of weird how the whole thing fits together, running w/o an intercooler is definitely an afterthought for their kits.
Heres how its supposed to look (This is my car before I setup a FMIC)

Also, The bracket that holds the MAF never lined up at all on my car, nowhere close, Idk if I accidentally got an NA one, or if they just dont make one that fits on an NB...

SolarYellow510 06-25-2010 12:54 AM

Somewhere, there's a thread asking whether anyone has gotten their BEGI kit right the first time. Not many positive responses there.

flounder 06-25-2010 07:07 AM

Hey full tilt boogie, thanks for the pics! Definitely helps to see what it should look like. If all I need is a little piece of rad hose I can handle that, I thought the whole tube was wrong.

About the maf bracket, it's weird because in the instructions the pics show the maf having the two bolt holes on the right side when its obvious that they are on the left on the nb's? idk what's up with that?

I guess as long as it all works when it's finished, i'll be happy.:x:

I am soooooo confused now. The photos I was sent were of a different tube. Which I have ordered for him already. The photos above show a flex hose. So which is it?

No, we do not build many S kits with a bypass valve. the problem is that the intake tube was replaced after the parts were designed. The new tube works on every other system it was used in, even ones with an intercooler and bypass valve. We had reason to assume this would fit also. The MAF brackets work, but are not really needed unless you have 1.6L.

We did actually. My car is proof of that. Corky's car is proof of that. Our problem is that Corky and Tim are constantly finding new ways to do things better. Some times is bites us in the rear, most of the time it does not. But.... would you rather deal with a company and parts that are constantly making things better and evolving, or one that is satisfied with status quo, even if it is from 4 years ago? That seems like a no brain-er to me.

This is sort of a pointless comment, made to offend, without knowing the full history. But, if it is of any consequence, the very first S6 system was build on the bench and shipped to a customer. We did not have a car to test fit it on. With the exception of an O2 bung (simply because Tim forgot to put one on), it fit perfectly. Do you know anyone else who could build a larger manifold, downpipe, v-band set up, and an external wastegate to boot - and have it fit the first time without testing fitment? I can think of **maybe** one other person. They are few and far between. No downpipe issues, no manifold hitting the frame issues, no PWS issues, no nada. I'd say we're on a roll, not the other way around.

I hope to god you have at least one non-employee car that on which it was right the first time.

I never got that piece of radiator hose with my kit, so I bought that flex hose at the parts house.

Stephanie Turner 07-07-2010 09:33 PM

My car was not an employee car when it was done. It belonged to a customer, for over a year after it was complete. It ran great, except when he would change tuning things randomly. He thought he was some computer guru, and his ego prevented him from thinking rationally and following my advice. The 5th time he messed it up, I was not available to bail him out immediately, so he traded it in. I heard about it, and went and bought it from the dealer. Got it for much less than it was worth since it was not running. I did not have the huevos to fix it and drive it off the lot, so I trailered it home. Loaded the original tuning map, and off I went.

Any problems since them have been my fault entirely, not due to parts, design, etc... The ONLY part that is still not the original, from 5 years ago, is the turbo and oil/coolant lines. And that was my own stupidity. I did update the distribution block to the new design about a year ago. Come to think of it, the only thing that has change on the S3 kit (for the 99+) since inception is the turbo studs, distribution block kit, air scooper, and the 3" compressor inlet on the larger turbos (Mine is still 2 1/4"). So, I'd have to say we did not do too badly if some of the very first parts are still being produced today.

Stop the BEGi hate!

WonTon 07-08-2010 02:09 AM

yes, please stop BEGi hate!

not many companies will jump through hoops to help when there is a problem with a part or parts missing! BEGi is one of the only companies i have dealt with that will actually return your phone call when you call and cant get in touch with the person you are trying to get ahold of....(speaking from personal experience)

some people just need to learn how to adapt and over come, when it comes to small problems like this instead of bitching!

example: i bought a oil drain block from BEGi for my GT2560 but i got sent one for a chinacharger. what did i do? i modified the part to work on my turbo instead of bothering them and waiting for another one in the mail cause i needed my car up and running that night.

Stephanie Turner 07-08-2010 04:29 PM

Yeah, real cool.

Everyone should know by now that if the criticism is warranted I won't say much. Merely apologize. I guess I have yet to figure out how to stand up for BEGi (against some of the BS told around here) without coming across the wrong way. I am a straight forward, literal, "this is the way it is" type of person. It is not my intention to offend, only point out the facts. However, if something is wrong we will fix it.

^^^This. Steph is fixing/fixed the issue...Shit happens, and they fix it if it does. I'd say that's pretty cool, now to fix that shit machine.

I had experienced some issues with Begi way back when i ordered my S-kit. But to be honest with you, i can't recall exactly what the issue was. But what i do remember, is them fixing the issue quickly, and without asking any questions. Mistakes i can handle, especially when they react so well to them.

Hate on Begi all that you want....as for me, i'm sticking by their side.

gospeed81 07-08-2010 04:58 PM

I think the problem is we joke half the time, then some body else jumps in all serious and upset, then the vendor has to defend it all like they were legitimate attacks.

I had a similar experience to budget racer's, as many of us have had. We can take it lightheartedly as fellow BEGi kit owners that many of us had to wait for one part or another. ALL of us were well taken care of though, and all of us ended up with a well setup turbo Miata.

You can get mad and call it excuses, but the truth of the matter is that Corky and crew are brave enough to stay on the scene, even when they know their weaknesses, and we're better off for it, whether you buy from them or not.
