Who's in for a BEGi Down Pipe?
1991BRG will allow use of his car for Bell to mock up a downpipe. In case you didn't know, Bell's downpipe is larger than TurboTony's (2.75" vs 2.5") and has divorced wastegate gas entry. That translates to more power. And it's roughly the same cost. I'm going to talk to Corky and/or Stephanie later today, but wanted to see if any others were interested.
Final cost may differ, but BEGi's website lists the mild steel pipe at $265. Tony's pipe is $250 Ben http://www.bellengineering.net/Image...2%20copyLG.jpg |
I still haven't heard from Tony, its been 5 days now. If Bell could reply me... Hellya... I am up for it!
In fairness, Tony was probably taking a Thanksgiving vacation.
I'd personally rather have a BEGi unit seeing both in person. Especially in SS. But for the price Tony's are nice.
Yes, I just got Tony's reply! TONY's OR BELL! :vash:
I'd think a 2.75" DP would be a REALLY tight fit. Since the turbo sits up high and far back there isn't a lot of room there. From the pictures I've seen (my 2.5" DP is sitting in my basement) the 2.5" barely fits.
Well Corky is at it he should make a replacement manifold for the greddy as well! :)
Anyone thinking to sell their 2.5" DP now?
I have an old RM downpipe with the flange modified to fit a GT25/GT28. No, it will not bolt up to the GReddy turbo.
Yes, 2.5" is a very tight fit. I would like to see a Bell 2.75" pipe and a seperate wastegate pipe fit with a GReddy manifold. |
I dont think 2.5in -vs- 2.75in is going to make much of a difference. WHY? Well, ok Ill tell you....take a look at the Greddy turbine wheel and look at how small the outlet is. 2.5in is already larger than the 15g's turbine wheel and outlet. The major restriction is the turbine wheel so knowing that we can predict that a .25" change in pipe diameter wont really matter. Since 2.5in is already going to be just fine. I mean, its possible that youll see SMALL gains....but the biggest gain could be the WG merge...the BEGI piece would be superior and thats where you would see the gains.
If he makes one, I am in for it. I was talking to him a few weeks ago, and was telling him that he should make stuff for the greddy, and he agreed, apparently enough of us said that too. Cool.
You guys are going to see bigger gains then you think going to the 2.75 especially if you have a decent sized exhaust.
i tend to agree with andy if the turbine exit is smaller than the exhaust whats the point you arent reducing that uch if any back pressure to the motor or turbo by going to big you are jus tletting more noise through, unless you have a big turbo 2.5 should be fine for 80% of the people here who wont see past 250whp 2.5 inch is just fine
Show of hands how many people have experience with a downpipe larger than 2.5" on a Greddy system? If we followed the "Well the turbine wheel is only 2 inches so blah blah blah" theory then why is a larger downpipe one of the first things most Greddy owners look to do? I guess you can just wait for 91BRG to report back.
Magna....You can't put an HP level on when a larger downpipe is needed. |
hey calm down luke. I am just saying it might not be justified in the performance vs price if it ends up being more expensive i am a big fan of going as big as possible and leaving room to upgrade but some people just want it to be right for them. If they where the same price i would go for the bigger one
I just don't like seeing potentially good products shot down because of Miata.net like thinking. The amount of nice parts like this for the Miata is pretty limited.
not a m.net a cheap sob type thing if it cost 50-100 bucks more and didnt give me 10% or more improvement i wouldnt do it. just me. go with what works.
WOT is such a 3.0" whore. I'm embarrased to say i still have a 2.25" catback coming off my 2.75" DP.
Thats fine. Not everyone is in the same boat though. I am not saying you personally should go out and buy it. Not ever person on this sites goal is to have the absolute cheapest setup possible.
Brain...Its all good. Its just one more peice of the puzzle on your setup thats better than before. |
Relax fellas...
I spoke with Stephanie already, and hopefully I'll get to speak to Corky a little later. They are determining if they can get BRG's car in when he's available to let them use it. We haven't talked about price, but their website shows their mild steel pipe to be $15 more than Tony's. $15 for the divorced waste gas design is definately worth it, even if the larger circumferece isn't. |
