Is it worth to spend $300 or so on a Flywheel?
hi guys
I am going to install an f1 new clutch and was wondering if people feel that it is worth adding a performance flywhlle (Fidanza?) Thanks |
depends on how long you plan to keep the car. i put a fidanza and enjoy it lots.
do it. Its been workin great for me!
I love mine.
I've driven my roommates 1.6 before and after. The ~8lb fidanza and it made an incredible difference. He upgraded to the 1.8 flywheel and clutch though at the same time, its a little heavier than the FID 1.6 though stronger. I would suggest the flywheel most definitely. Revs way faster.
Whats an "f1 new clutch"?
Fuck Fidanza get an ACT Steel Light weight... got a Fidanza and the pilot bearing area was over bored and had to send it back they then told me they didnt have any more 1.6L's for least 2 weeks. Thankfully Goodwin sent me a 1.8L clutch and 1.8L ACT Steel Light Weight Flywheel at no extra charge overnight cus they felt bad that my car was up on a lift at a shop waiting for Fidanza.... so yeah thats my 2 cents as for the lighter of the flywheel weight hells yeah it rawks =)
I had some typos, pretty sure i fixed them. My roommate likes to say his NA revs like a Formula (F1) car and in saying that i got all messed up.
-It is also possible to have a machine shop lighten your OEM flywheel quite a bit and balance it as well and its much cheaper. As in usually less than $100 cheaper. Though not as light as the fidanza it is a low cost improvement. |
Thank you all. Probably worth doing it while I am already installing the clutch. The clutch F1 Racing Stage 1 clutch.
i have a fidanza and love it. it was great in both FI and NA versions of my car.
i do have to admit, if you have the means, get the steel ACT unit. |

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/F1-RA...spagenameZWDVW If so, it's about $200 cheaper than other clutch brands for that kind of holding power. I don't know of anybody else using that clutch. You're going into uncharted territory here. Are you going to do the work yourself? When taking a chance on a cheap part like that... if it turns out to be a piece of shit, you'll spend twice as much money in the long run in time and effort than if you'd just bought a known good clutch in the first place. Again, I have no experience with that clutch... but I wouldn't install it in my car even if it was free. |
Some people dont recommend a lightned flywheel for FI miatas. something with the load and this and that. my first gear is almost useless how fast mine revs up. I got an 11lbs. JUN flywheel. Can't say I can really complain though.
Brain- do you have any problems launching using the lightweight clutch? Some people have said that not only are they worried about strength of the flywheel but they also have problems launching with them on FI miatas. I don't have a light FW so I don't know.
no problems lauching, although I never launch hard. But, I have no trouble driving the thing.

Will keep you posted if something goes wrong. Thanks |
