Would like some tips almost done with Greedy kit

Hows it going,
Well i have 91 and almost done installing greddy kit, only thing left is hooking up Olderguys O2 clamp, add oil and advance timing. Im only looking for 6 psi not much just enough to have some fun. I have installed WB aem already, same with Bipes for timing and fuel using vortech fmu. Its my first time ever adding boost or even driving one. I know without the O2 clamp ill either go lean or rich cuz of ecu.
When reading a post on how clamp works, should i feel for hesitation then play with the O2 clamp? or do i need to keep eye on my Wideband and avoid certain numbers?
i have already installed intercooler also recirc with dsm bov, and upgraded my rear end so no worries on that. I understand due to band aids the numbers on wideband will not be stable but will keep my car driveable and enjoy the kick.

Do you have the Greddy fuel riser in there? If so you should be safe at 6psi. You will want more though. 6 PSI on the greddy kit is barely boosting at all.

Don't go above 6-8psi. It will be plenty, don't listen to dustinb. Any more and it'll be incredibly hard to keep it out of the incredibly lean or incredibly rich zone.

There are instructions with the o2 clamp as to how to adjust it. It requires a voltage meter and a screwdriver.

checking the timing with bipes connected has me concerned. As soon as i hit 2k rpm i see the timing just jump to 8* but it doesn't stay their, i jumps back to 14* is this normal?

Don't know what the Bipes does, but assuming that it just pulls 6 degrees and is not adjustable; take your base timing to 10 BTDC to start. The O2 clamp is set to have your ECU think that the AFR is lean, so it will throw in fuel as you activate it. It will kick in around~0~ as it is shipped. You may need to crank in the screw on the switch to make it activate a little later.

bipes is timing a controller, trying to figure if its working properly. It retards when i rev it to 2k even holding that rpm their it bouces back to it. Idk if its suppose to be steady like as i would be checking at idle

chicksdigmiatas 09-10-2010 11:00 AM

I am pretty sure it varies with manifold pressure and rpm along with a temp measurement. You can hold all those constant?

medic4.life 09-10-2010 01:35 PM

Gotcha, i was able to take for a spin last night. I was at 6lb i believe, i wasnt focused on my boost gauge as much as i did on my wideband. Man it felt great the power was amazing, under load my afr would read 11 - 12. I didnt hear any knocking or see my oil pressure gauge bounce, I have bipes to retard under max load to 6*. I thought would be proper becuase here in vegas does get hot

curly 09-10-2010 04:16 PM

Told you you'd be happy with 6lbs. You will eventually want more, but it's still boost. Enjoy it for now, keep an eye on your gauges. Have you upgraded the waste gate? The stock greddy unit sucks, and won't hold boost well.

medic4.life 09-10-2010 04:53 PM

No I haven't, still stock greddy wastegate

curly 09-10-2010 07:07 PM

Your boost gauge should be bouncing all over the place. Replace it with anything, then move your boost signal for the waste gate to right before the throttle body. Then you'll have rock solid boost like me.

Nice, I'm curious though is a turbo timer required? I know after a simple drive if I do achieve boost I should let the car idle for a minute or two. That I shouldn't just shut the car off. A local brought up the idea that I need one.

Savington 09-13-2010 05:40 PM

Turbo timers are not required or recommended.

medic4.life 09-13-2010 05:51 PM

Sweet thank you

chicksdigmiatas 09-13-2010 08:40 PM

I have a turbo timer that p51 hellfag never bought. 35.
